Jaap,

Modernman has a point though. The S System, although a technological tour de force, is I would guess, a money sink. I would not be at all surprised if Sinar fell into the same category. I was looking at the latest Sinar toy and thinking “how many professionals would want to use an S body as a digital back?” Not many I would guess, when CCD backs are now reaching to 85 MP and beyond and scanning backs to 300 MP and beyond, with far more flexibility for large format use.

I suspect we are all cross-funding the S in the prices we pay for M gear.

I doubt it is, Wilson , as sales have, according to Leica, far exceeded expectations.( The original expectation was 1000 units per year) As a price calculation is usually made on basis of projected sales, it must have made them quite a bit of money in the first place.

And the merry-go-round of insecurities starts to turn again. Come one, come all, take the merry-go-round for a spin and let yourself believe that the object of your affection is less sparkly than someone else's. Let the paranoia build and make you believe that the Leicaman is giving gifts to others but not to you.

Or believe Leica's explanation and save yourself some unnecessary heartache.

Pete.;)

Oh there's gifting going on alright.

But it's certainly not from Leica to us, that's for damn sure.

Hopefully a drop in price for the M240 in the New Year then? ;)
