If all my shots will be moved from there to here: unless I pull out my m3 - I will no longer be able to participate in that thread?? Not entirely happy. In addition we now have various M8, MM, M240 and Non Camera Specific 'old glass' threads... a type of emergent 'camera apartheid'? This isn't necessary in the M lens forum- surely? Seems like the VTOG thread will only be of use to those shooting the M9, S2 or film cameras from here on in? Is the answer to have a different thread for every type of camera that can handle Leica glass? What next: 'the view through older glass on the Sony A7r' thread? First a bit of characteristic flare doesn't hurt the photo of Birch leaves on Blue Spruce. Second over the back fence with a small Maple and some naked Birch to show any CA or fringing. Members have posted their pictures in that thread because it is deliberately 'camera agnostic' and is about the lenses whereas this thread is only about the Leica M (Typ 240). Please respect my wish as the starter of the View Through Older Glass thread and the posters' wishes; by all means copy pictures to this thread if you think it helps but PLEASE leave them in their original thread.  Pete.  weird! After all, they all belong to the lens sub-forum and, in this context, I'm more interested in seeing the rendering of a lens than knowing which camera the lens was mounted on. Although the camera information is definitely an interesting one, particularly in terms of FF vs. cropped vs. monochrome sensor, it's easy to see as long as the posted pictured are properly captioned. Love my battered Elmar 50mm /f3.5 and Elmar135mm f/4, and lets not forget a couple of excellent Voigtlander's (CV 75 f/2.5 and 50 f 1.5 being prime examples). But just lowered the bar somewhat and purchased a Jupiter 8. And it is good - sharp (enough) and luckily seems to nail focus. Somehow getting results from cheap lenses is a tad more enjoyable than from spending (a very considerable) amount more on the usual suspects (of which I have to confess I am a ready participant).  Yes it is harder - but (for a hobbyist) very satisfying!  James  No offence to the mods but I think my original post (above) has been taken a bit out of context (it was merged with another thread I think). I never meant for it to be used as a thread for posting images - more a discussion on the use and merits of cheaper lenses on the M (from a light hearted point of view).  I'd be perfectly happy for it to be closed and all images using old lenses posted to the marvelous VTOG thread - which is also my favorite threads. I really don't see that it matters what M is used providing the poster identifies as such (obviously the EVF opens up more possibilities).  My apologies to Ecar, Farnz and jaques. 3 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mine is much earlier but also in fine condition: the sharpest 35mm M I have discovered, including an almost-as-good Zeiss 35 f2.8. I disabled that irritating infinity lock by holding back the sprung finger-nail catch and inserting a tiny sliver cut from a matchstick. This holds the gate open all the time. la9nt Posted February 10, 2014 Share #37 Â Posted February 10, 2014 I just bought a used Elmar 135/4 from 1960 in prime condition, it actually looks like brand new outside. However, it has a tendency that the bayonet snaps to lock before it is correctly positioned, my M then claims there is 'no lens' mounted, and LV turns off. I had my local repair-shop send it to Solms for a possible repair or adjustment to the bayonet and it was returned with a 'this lens cannot be used on the M' note. I'm curious what the difference is. Â Is your problem intermittent depending on how the lens was mounted, or does live view always fail with that lens?
