Bill W Posted November 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just bought a new MacPro to replace my old one from several years. It has OSx 10.8 and of course several things no longer are supported such as my Monaco X Rite monitor calibrator. They never updated the software much since 2004. My question is about the suggested replacement the ColorMunki Display. Any complaints?

Jeff S Posted November 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2013 My NEC has SpectraView software built in, but even so I can somewhat relate to your post given that Apple took over six months to finally support SpectraView after I upgraded my O/S at one point, without my bothering to notice that it wasn't supported with the initial upgrade. Apple has clearly prioritized its mobile devices over desktop machines and peripherals. Next time I'm going to get an Eizo with its own built-in colorimeter. Bill W Posted November 19, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted November 19, 2013 I have a Mac monitor so unless I want to use the monitor calibrator that is native in the system, I must use something else. My old Monaco Optix Pro worked well for many years. I will probably order the ColorMunki Display.
Jeff S Posted November 19, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 19, 2013 You might want to compare the two colorimeters from X-rite here. Keep in mind that the colorimeter can only do so much if the display itself cannot display colors accurately and/or isn't sufficiently wide gamut. I think it's a critical part of the digital print workflow, so I don't mind investing in NEC or Eizo, which are two of the best brands, despite my using a Mac Pro.
