number of activations?

Who cares?

Conservative estimates put MTBF at 150k exposures. That is conservative. How many exposures do you take per year? If 10k images per year then you can get 15 years of use before a simple shutter mechanism gets replaced.

If you ask any Leica dealer who has been around for say 30 years about this, he will no doubt say he has never seen a Leica camera shutter fail due to overuse.

Is there a method to get the info about the total number of activations of an M Type 240?

Thanks

Lutz

I tried the hex information from the EXIF data, and when converted it told me I'd shot over 300 000 shots on my 2 month old M. Hadn't noticed that I'd been shooting away so liberally........

But seriously, there is no apparent method. And I think that has some implications for resale.

This thread 'explains' everything .....

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-type-240/275209-leica-m-240-image-unique-id.html#post2338760

.... and there are a couple of follow up threads....

basically every time you switch the camera on the unique ID number starts at some 'random' point and then increments in a non uniform way till switched off ..... and then it starts again with a new seeding number.

As it never seems to repeat and the number is by definition 'unique' there must be a crafty algorithm common to all cameras behind it .... and if that's the case it 'should' be decodable....
