algrove Posted November 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2013 Who cares? Conservative estimates put MTBF at 150k exposures. That is conservative. How many exposures do you take per year? If 10k images per year then you can get 15 years of use before a simple shutter mechanism gets replaced. If you ask any Leica dealer who has been around for say 30 years about this, he will no doubt say he has never seen a Leica camera shutter fail due to overuse. Hadn't noticed that I'd been shooting away so liberally........ But seriously, there is no apparent method. And I think that has some implications for resale. As it never seems to repeat and the number is by definition 'unique' there must be a crafty algorithm common to all cameras behind it .... and if that's the case it 'should' be decodable....
