New Mayfair Leica Store in Burlington Arcade

I imagine the meeter and greeter will be particularly irked by this latest development (and I wouldn't blame him if he is). Opening another shop in that area indicates just where Leica sees the brand heading and I think it is abundantly clear how highly they regard their long established London dealers.

I guess the thinking is that the Bruton Place shop is a little out of the way and a Burlington Arcade outlet is more visible to the more casual (wealthy) shopper. The fact that they have opened a "pop-up shop" now in advance of something more permanent next year indicates that they are keen to cash in on the luxury Christmas present market. "Would you like an M (typ 240) in chrome to go with those M&S slippers, Dear?":)

What dealers offer that the Leica's own shops do not are second hand Leica products, and the ability to trade in or commission sell a customers surplus equipment (some also offer a decent cup of coffee). The major Leica dealers not only service the domestic market but many have substantial international sales.

I for one would rather place my business with a knowledgeable photographic dealer such as Richard Caplan or Red Dot who can provide me with complete and knowledgeable service and support, without the airs and graces that go with the Leica Shop.

You pays your money and takes your choice.

Well, you have to admire Leica's marketing expertise ... remember that Mini M thingy ;)

I'm sure they have got it just right having two Leica Company outlets in Central London ... plus three Leica Premier dealers

Maybe there are more 'special'/luxury' editions' in the pipeline?

But seriously, if they put as much effort into making available/delivering M240 and X Vario accessories as they put into opening new Leica boutiques it would be more to their credit.

Their marketing priorities leave much to be desired ... especially as regards their finger loops and R to M adaptors.

Mr Caplan must be delighted

That said, I walked down Burlington Arcade last week and the store is tiny and looked to mostly be optical devices rather than photographic. I didn't go in though.

It's just a temporary pop-up store - the article says they're opening a permanent store there in January (presumably in another unit).

I did wonder if they're moving due to the number of burglaries they've had at the other place, Burlington Arcade is maybe a bit more secure. Dodgy area Mayfair.......

I don't know what the problem is, people should get over it. Leica is a Luxury brand that sells Luxury products to people who have lots of money to spend on, well, Luxurious things. Did I mention that they are a Luxury brand? ;).

I for one am pleased ..... I get regularly dragged up and down this neck of the woods by Mrs Thighslapper intent on squandering cash on clothes and shoes. Much more convenient than a detour to the cave in Bruton Place ...... with orders to be back (with credit card unused) in 20 minutes or else.....

I walked into BurlingtonArcade today and came across the store. I went in, out of curiosity. The staff was friendly. They however only supply colorful point and shoot cameras.

This location tells you a lot on this "new" client segment that Leica seems to be targeting.
