Toshack10 Posted November 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the Fuji XE1 which I am enjoying. It came with the Fuji 18-55 lens which with the crop (1.52x) is 27 - ~80 but it's bulky and I find myself getting lazy when using it by using it at it's fullest length. Wife bought me the Zeiss Touit f1.8/32 (50mm) which is of course fully auto on the XE1 I treated myself to a reasonably priced Summicron f2/50mm (so 75mm) which lets me post on here;) I've an urge for a "true" 35mm. There are huge differences in price between the Summilux and the Elmar 21 but the latter looks like a smaller overall package which appeals. The Elmar is also cheaper. However, thew old Super Angulon 21 is cheaper again. (Although for about the same money as the Angulon I could get the Fujinon f1.4/23mm.) Because of the crop factor, do I need to worry overly about blurred or distorted edges from (say) the Super Angulon vs the straighter and far more expensive Summi? It's tough to justify the price differential ... Any thoughts welcome
Advertisement Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Hi Toshack10, Take a look here Lens advice please. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted November 15, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2013 Not sure if you will like my response but anyway... - I have no experience with your Fuji body. - If you need a "true" 35, a 21 will be too wide, will give you the feeling to use a 28 more or less. I would take a 24 or a 25 if i were you but i would seriously think of the 23 Fuji as well. I have no experience with the latter though. - if you want a slow 21, the tiny and inexpensive CV 21/4 is much better than the S-A 21/4 on crop cameras. - if you want a bit faster 21, the Super-Elmar 21/3.4 is much better than the S-A 21/3.4 on any camera. - if you insist to get a S-A take a look at your user manual to check if it is compatible with your Fuji because those lenses protrude a lot into the body. - if you want a 21/2.8, the best is the Elmarit 21/2.8 asph but it is not a small lens. - if you want an even faster 21, you should consider the Summilux 21/1.4 but also the CV 21/1.8. Big lenses though. I have no experience woth both so that's all for now.

earleygallery Posted November 16, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 16, 2013 Buy a new camera (FF) and get a proper 35mm.
algrove Posted November 16, 2013 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2013 You probably do not want the SA21, like lct says it protrudes a lot into the camera cavity and can damage your camera. I have one I also have a SEM21/3.4 and it is fantastic. The small package is most appealing. I have a 21/1.4 and it is also fantastic, but very large for an M lens. You might want to look at it like a 21 mm Noctilux.
