Do you own both? MM & M240?

Sorry you're having all of these problems.

Very frustrating.

If not a faulty camera I still wonder whether it's an SD card problem?

The dealer definitely thinks it's a faulty camera; hence the replacement. I've yet to shoot any meaningful quantity with MM Number 2, but hopefully all will be well.

you got me thinking now............wish I never saw this thread

How many of you guys with both the M 240 and MM go out shooting with both cameras with you either around the neck or in a bag with lenses attached and ready to go?

If I'm going out for a full day intending photography as the main activity (ie. by myself and no shopping :p) I take both M and MM with Noct, WA and 75 or 90 and tend to swap cameras depending on the subject. Two Leicas and a spare lens is still travelling light and offers great flexibility.

My M has worked faultlessly as long as you avoid the 'discreet' shutter problem, so I would expect your replacement to be fine.

I've agonised over this a lot...

Since getting the MM in March, I haven't touched my M9, even though the first 2 months I took it out as well.

I also have an OMD E-M5 and I MUCH prefer the high ISO output from that camera to the M9, which I never used above 800 ISO.

So what has happened is that the M9 has been hit by a double whammy. On the one hand I shoot the MM preferentially for my B&W work, including at night. On the other, if I want colour I go for the E-M5, which also lets me shoot in low light.

I don't take both systems, but either go out for the day or on a trip with the system for what I have in mind. So I took the MM to Berlin and Warsaw on weekend trips, but the E-M5 on holiday to the Greek islands. I have a similar set of lenses for each (24/35/50/90 + 150 equivalent for the OM), so it works well for me.

I got 7 months into the waiting list for an M240, and in the end I decided I would stick with the OMD as it and the lenses (all used) still cost me less than half a new M240 and are more flexible.

I wouldn't rule out a used M240 one day, or the next M..... but for now the MM is enough.

Why agonise ???

At the end of the day it's all about taking pictures ....... use whatever suits and gives you the results you want.

It's not about what camera you own.... it's what you do with it....;)

Yes of course, that goes without saying...

But usability and the camera as part if a workflow do influence the final result, otherwise we would all be using film or smartphones all the time.....

True .... we all find our own balance and trade-off depending on our priorities and particular whims and desires.......

Which is just as well otherwise there would be no competition and no innovation ....

...... and unfortunately why a lot of 'my camera is best' threads in these forums are ultimately a bit pointless...... but fun anyway ....:p

No problems whatsoever after a week or so with MM No2. And I'm loving it.

I'm intrigued to know what Solms made of my first Monochrom, and what strange faults lay therein, but I guess I'll never find out.......
