I didn´t go through all the posts thorougly enough. If I had done so, I would have seen your various inputs.

Please excuse, if my response sounds too harsh in the light of this. I hope your case gets sorted

out in an acceptable timespan for you and all other cases involved. It looks indeed like

a bigger issue and your anger is quite understandable.

My M9 is arrived in Solms and They immediately responded telling me that they will change the sensor for free though you must wait some time due to lack of spare parts.

Is a good new for the sensor that will be free, for the repair we have to wait.....

I'm happy to report back from my original post that my M9 has been received at Solms and that the sensor will be replaced free of charge even though out of warranty.

How long this will take is another matter as they are waiting on spare parts.

Hello Willycruz. Even just yesterday I sent my M9-P in Solms for the same problem. I'd like to know how much time (a day, a week) you've had a response after your shipment and if they have communicated how much time they will need to repair at least in an approximate way.

In two days the M9 is arrived in Solms After 4 days They gave the diagnosis and costs, for the time of repair they told me that they do not know and that depends on spare parts(sensor)......

So we have to wait......

Leica Solms received my M9-P and said they will replace the sensor under warranty. The replacement part (sensor) is not available now, than they do not know the timing of the repair. Unfortunately also the original cover is not available and will be replaced with a different type.

I asked for more specific delivery times and the type of coverage available.

I'm waiting with confidence.

My understanding is that Leica is sourcing new sensors from a new supplier. Those fitted to date seem to be identical to those of the original supply but production and QA are taking time.

 

This gap in supply with large numbers of people being without their camera for four to six months is inexcusable and incompetent on Leica's part and some restitution should be made to those with such a long wait - perhaps extended warranty or significant discounts on new lens purchases :).

Has this timespan been communicated or is it speculation? Even 4- 6 weeks would be FAR too much.

I have been told they are sending every week about 10 camera bodies back to Solms due to this problem, and the repair is taking around that time. They didn't tell me that Leica are having problems with spare parts, but judging from the posts in this thread, I think it is obviously the reason behind this kind of delay.

 

So now I will have no camera until April at the earliest.

Just got my M9 back with a new sensor from Solms, had a very similar problem tho they never told me what it was. I dropped I off Sept 10th, had to wait 8weeks for a new batch of sensors to come in.

 

Oddly, it had dust on the sensor when returned...

Sadly I have the same problem with my M9. It is one year old. It has been with an authorised Leica repair agent in Australia for three months now. I was advised by the shop owner in Sydney that they have five customers with M9s awaiting for sensor replacements and have been advised by Leica Germany that they have had problems with the sensor manufacturer and are trying to secure a new supplier. Still no word on when I will get my M9 back. Also not happy.

I did not expect this when I paid a lot of money for one of the best cameras in the world that is supposed to last a lifetime.

Had my M9 for other service (lens adjustment) at Solms, they found out that the sensor is cracked (one little white spot as shown from you before). They did the lens service and replaced my sensor within a few days and I have my M9 back now. Sensor replacement was free of charge, camera is years out of warranty. Top service!!!

I think there is a great difference of service quality between Germany and other countries.

 

My M9 with its delaminating sensor was sent to Singapore instead of Germany, and I received the usual message that there are no spare parts, and repair cannot be done before end of February.

 

To add insult to injury, I delivered the camera to Leica with a body cap, but it was shipped to Singapore without body cap. Now I don't know if this is standard procedure, but it shows a lack of professionalism and respect for the products. I cannot imagine my camera being stored for 4 months without body cap awaiting sensor replacement and all the dust getting inside the camera.

 

Very disappointed to be honest, and will definitely cancel my pre-order for the M240 and sell the M9 when it gets back from repair.

So the "rangefinderexperience" is nothing you want to prolong, Edward?

 

I would keep the M9 for the time being and would recommend this to you as well, if you have interesting lenses.

There are photoopportunities you can only tackle with a r/f, most other cameras can also do things very well,

but the r/f deals with those opportunities where the others will fail.

 

Have a look at the camera following the 240. They seem to be working on it already.
