charby57 Posted November 9, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My almost one year old Monochrom has develop something a bit odd. As I focus any lens, the rangefinder mechanism make little mechanical pitch sound, like as a spring would "ping".... The movement of the patch remains fluid as I focus, but this spring noise is annoying. Any clue what could cause this? Thank you.

charby57 Posted November 9, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted November 9, 2013 Funny, Jaap. Indeed, the rangefinder mechanism make this metallic noise. Anybody has experienced this? Few months ago, the camera has been serviced for frame removal of the 75mm marks.
elgenper Posted November 10, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2013 Funny, Jaap. Indeed, the rangefinder mechanism make this metallic noise. Anybody has experienced this? Few months ago, the camera has been serviced for frame removal of the 75mm marks. Never heard any kind of noise from a Leica RF mechanism. And, if someone has recently done something with its internals, I would get it checked immediately. The frames displayed are formed by a couple of thin metal sheets with holes that are moved in respect to each other to form the correct frames for the lens mounted. In addition to that, this entire ´sheet metal sandwich´ moves with the focussing arm to compensate for the parallax at different distances. So, it´s quite complicated, and ´removal´ of a certain frame means exchanging these metal sheets with those for another camera model (or, God forbid, some kind of ´patching´ the original ones). If something has worked loose or was assembled in a wrong way, it could easily scratch some internal glass surface, necessitating a very costly repair. charby57 Posted November 10, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted November 10, 2013 Per, the removal of the 75mm frame, on my M9 and on the Monochrom, was done by Leica NJ. No problem on the M9.
earleygallery Posted November 10, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2013 Per, the removal of the 75mm frame, on my M9 and on the Monochrom, was done by Leica NJ. No problem on the M9. But there is a problem on your MM?
charby57 Posted November 11, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted November 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) James, a problem on the Monochrom? More like an annoyance. I do live with it. What I looking for here is if there is anybody who has experience this. So far, I guess not.
