Jessestr Posted November 7, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all I'm shooting with a Leica M8 and I always shoot natural light but I wan't to try a one light setup with shoot trough umbrella for some nice soft black and white shots. I have a Canon Speedlite 580EX II that I want to use for flash. As I don't want to give money to wireless triggers.. are there cables out there for a leica that can trigger a flash? Thanks! Luke_Miller Posted November 7, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 7, 2013 I suggest the same setup I an currently using with my Cheetah CL-360 and my M9. I put a Nikon AS-15 in the M9's flash shoe Nikon AS-15 Sync Terminal Adapter (Hot Shoe to PC) 3066 B&H and connect to the flash using a PC cord. A Nikon or universal TTL cord would probably work as well, but they are more expensive and will not let you get your flash very far away.
Jessestr Posted November 7, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted November 7, 2013 Thanks! I tried the 580EX II on the M8.. works great on the camera too! What's the difference between a PC cable and the hot shoe like cables?
Luke_Miller Posted November 8, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2013 The PC cable just conducts the signal from the large center conductor in the flash shoe. The signal that tells the flash to fire. The TTL cables conduct the signals from all the connections in the flash shoe. Those connections are usually unnecessary when using a non-Leica flash and in some cases can cause issues. Jessestr Posted November 8, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted November 8, 2013 Thanks. I've been figuring out that I can't find any PC cable for the 580EX II speedlite. As it's also a MALE connection. So I need a Male-Male. As you can see this won't work. I don't know what to get...... Welcome, dear visitor! Luke_Miller Posted November 8, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 8, 2013 Getting a replacement cord that works should not be difficult. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/682575-REG/Impact_10032370_PC_Male_to_PC.html

Where did you find that hot-shoe/sync adapter pictured? The Nikon AS-15 works fine, but I'd like something I can slot an external viewfinder into when I shoot mondo wide-angle with off-camera flash.
