From the position of the cat´s legs, I infer that this is the 6725th image from this particular camera….;)

Seriously, look at the EXIF: there is a field named "imageUniqueID" that for this image has the value 1A45 (preceded by a looong string of zeroes that can be ignored). This is in hexadecimal notation, and must be converted to the base 10 to be meaningful to most of us.

There are calculators and software that help with this; I use the built-in calculator in Mac OS X. Put it in programmer´s mode, select base 16, and enter 1A45. Then select base ten, and there, in all its glory, is the answer: 6725.

Without the special calculators, one can still convert a hexadecimal value quite easily. One must know what the letters A to F mean: A = 10, B = 11, and so on up to F = 15. Then use this scheme (illustrated here with the value 1A45 (where the ´10´comes from that ´A´):

(((((1*16)+10)*16)+4)*16)+5 = 6725.

Thanks Everyone:)... I find the quickest (and laziest) way- for me- is to post an image and ask here. Took a matter of minutes - and none of that mathematical nonsense. I am somewhat willfully dyslexic in that area. Hexi-decimi- what? I can add up the bill pretty good if you owe me money but beyond that... meh.

It is a sad day: 6725 images and my M9-P is up for sale- on the block. I should have put 20K on the dial at least in that time... ah well- quality not quantity as they say. I wish I could afford to keep it- finest looking M digital to date. But I just had to get the new fangled M didn't I...

Thx. Marc,

but the DNG-file looks far too big for this place. I´ll try.

best

GEORG

-----------------------

don´t even know how to get the EXIF,

I´ll try to PM the DNG-file to you K.-H., if it works and if you don´t mind.

On a Macintosh you can look up the Exif info with Preview.

The Exif is in the Inspector, or a similar name like that.
