1. Some sort of electronic focus confirmation (don't know if it is possible technically) but a dot that lit up when the focus patch aligns would help older eyes

2. Hybrid EVF/OVF or at least a better EVF

3. Auto iso as in M9

4. Some weight lose would be nice

4. lastly I want it to make my morning cup of tea

A full frame 24MP manual focus rangefinder with EVF isn't going to provide M240 the premium product status for very long with alternative products like Sony A7 & A7R already offering full frame with interchangeable lens capability.

I was indeed surprised at Leica offering the T which was rumoured for a length of time and suddenly appearing. In my thoughts, it kind of cannibalise the M by offering a EVIL camera to take on the superb M lenses and yet offering it's own range of AF lenses.

However I now think Leica is actually putting the availability of the T as a experiment to gauge consumer's acceptance of a AF EVIL camera. If the T sells well, I'm certain the next M will incorporate AF lenses and accept the current MF M & R series lenses.

As a consumer, I would be thrilled when the next M can be AF to take on a 28mm to 90mm zoom and a 80mm-200mm zoom and yet accepting the prime MF M wide angle and Noctilux lenses,...that in my mind would come close to become the perfect M and yet allowing Leica to develop a series of German made zoom lenses that will differentiate itself from the T series.

If I now do not see the T as a canabalizing camera to the current M, then it must be a test mule for Leica to work on the next M!

Hence I am now holding my horses on any further purchase on M lenses as I am pretty certain Leica will offer a new range of AF lenses for the up and coming new M! And I am ready to go fot it!

I think Leica are aware of the limitations with the m240,but the wish list in this thread is fanciful, why has the Sony cameras taken over the Leica forum, for me personally it does not come any near the m240. As for the so called colour problem "what problem"I belong to a top quality camera club where my m240 is the only Leica product being used out of 80 plus members.Nikons, Canons, Sony ,Olympus, Fuji, are all being used by the other members, but they all marvel about the quality of my images (prints and PDI's) Forum Members should make their own profiles and invest in a top quality monitor like the EIZO. Then make some A2 prints and compete in Competitions and Exhibitions. For Leica to make an update M240 incorporating suggestions from the wish list would be impossible in the M series. Leave the decisions up to the undisputed skill of the Leica experts. John T

They did, it's called the Leica T

the T has a small sensor, I shall never buy it , and I want my 50 summilux to be a 50 not a 75

but I shall buy the first small system FF , certainly Sony + Zeiss if nothing comes from Leica

Like the M8. If you are not using a range finder, sensor size means less. What do you loose 1 f-stop DOF.

I think the Leica T is the best you will get from Leica on this subject. If you must have FF and no rangefinder, then don't use the rangefinder... The M240 is far from being the best R replacement, but it's what Leica is providing.

This is more likely. Leica makes separate lines…M, S, X, T…for a reason.

Jeff

Amateur Photographer published a series of interviews with Stefan Daniel (product manager at Leica) and Alfred Schopf (Leica's CEO). Here are the main pionts from the interviews:

Leica received "very nice" amount of orders for the Leica T

They chose APS-C sensor for the Leica T in order to keep the size of the camera and lenses small

The Leica T sensor is made by Sony

The Leica T is hand polished in Portugal

Leica will not reveal the name of the manufacturer that makes Leica T lenses in Japan and apparently it is not Panasonic (I already reported rumors that the new T lenses could be produced by Sigma)

In the future Leica T lenses could be produced in Germany as well

The new plant in Wetzlar will provide at least a 50% increase in productivity

Leica's revenue doubled in the three years after 2009

Leica produces around 1000 film cameras per year, 60% of them are sold in Japan

On a potential full frame Leica T based camera, Leica's CEO answered:

"Let's wait and see... Whatever I say can be misinterpreted. Might Leica show up with a full-format camera at some point, with an autofocus? Yes. Don't ask me about the design."

When Leica produces a new FF AF Mirrorless camera and have the option to take on current M lenses, it can call it whatever, but will certainly cannibalise the M sales if the next M is still MF only.

Exactly. We've talked about this many times. M cameras, M lenses, the M mount = all based on manual focus. I enjoy autofocus, but I don't expect an M camera to offer AF ever. If it did, it would be mis-named. However, it would not surprise me to see an M-like camera with autofocus and its own line of AF lenses. The new T is part of the way there and, appropriately, is not called the next M.

- More dynamic range, even if this means dropping down to 16-18MP. Maybe utilizing something like a dual gain read architecture like the sensor in the Arri Alexa uses.

- Color science that is based on film (see Arri Alexa) that will produce more organic images.

- 16bit files for better tonality

- Bigger shooting buffer

- A transparently integrated and very sophisticated metering system along the lines of Nikon etc.

- Return of the non-LED frame lines

- Frameline selector

- Availability at launch. Having to wait 6-12 months to receive a camera that is on a 3 year life cycle is sort of silly.

- Increased reliability / less quirks

- Thinner body

- I can live without video recording, but liveview is pretty useful.

- I can live without the EVF, unless they can increase the refresh rate considerably.

- Lower price (LOL)

It sounds like I would like something more along the lines of the M-E, but unfortunately that may mean that you are always trailing the sensor in the M by a generation.

Also whatever the 240 successor will be called as a Monochrom...

- Hybrid viewfinder (like in fuji x-pro etc..)

- preferably CCD instead of CMOS

- higher dynamic range

- high iso with no noise

- base iso of 50

- autofocus (although I can do without it) while keeping it fully compatible with old M lenses

- weather sealed + weather sealed lenses

- add option to manually define lens profiles (for non-leica lenses, leica cine lenses etc...)

- shutter more quiet (like M6) or electronic first-curtain shutter

- built in gps and wifi

- offer a baseplate with door for battery and sd card

- ultrasonic sensor cleaning

- on sensor image stabilization

I frankly don't want anything new in the rangefinder as I am happy with my M9-P for now.

However what would be great is for Leica to give a free loaner each time the camera goes in for an extended service, at least during the warranty period.

What's the point in giving a 24 month warranty only to take back a few months when your camera needs servicing or calibration or parts replacement, due to no fault of the owner?

- Return of the non-LED frame lines

- Frameline selector

why would you want to lose the LED frame lines?

regarding frameline selector, I never understood why this caused such an uproar. You honestly need to preview the fov for 4 prime lenses? come on seriously?

It' not at the top of my list, but I wasn't exactly something I was yearning for either.

I would describe it as more of a storm in a teacup. I prefer to reserve 'uproar' for more serious issues like a 'Hello Kitty' special edition or something similarly scandalous.

It's not a feature I use every day, but over the past 20 years it's come in pretty handy at times and takes seriously less time than swapping out a lens.

But in all seriousness I suspect that the main reason for Leica eliminating them is that they were seriously short on internal space for electronics. So, I seriously doubt that the lever will be reinstated.
