MarkP Posted October 16, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 16, 2013 Unless I'm mistaken the Leica M manual recommends that the only lens safe to collapse into the M240 is the 4.0/90 Macro-Elmar.
MTWIZARD Posted October 16, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 16, 2013 Hello, I have used my 50mm 2.8 on my M8, M8.2, M9 and now M 240, never a problem. I do extend the lens to install, I keep the lens collapsed when not in use. Hope this helps MTWIZARD
tobey bilek Posted October 16, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 16, 2013 You might have problem with M8, M9 definitely not.
chris_tribble Posted October 17, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) No problem - half of the images here were taken with this lens a few weeks back. Along with the 35 cron asph, the Elmar 50 2.8 is my go-for light weight travel / trekking lens. ... A move to Cumbria
brill64 Posted October 18, 2013 Share #8 Posted October 18, 2013 ..if you must collapse this little masterpiece on your M, do so slowly & without creating pressure or stress inside the lens throat & shutter box, which may lead to distortion or scratching of the leaves over time. This camera is weather sealed after all. This may be the issue, not just it's brushing the metal blades when collapsed, as some reported on the M8. There could also be an issue with the M accurately metering in all modes with an Elmar 50 2.8 mounted. Regardless, use with care. One wouldn't expect Leica to mention something about compatibility of collapsible lenses for no reason at all & without having extensively tested it for themselves. Having said that, I'd love to use my copy.
