Julius Yls Posted October 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, I've my M-E dropped vertically and the bottom plate hit stone pavement, as result: few scratches and dents, also the vertical alignment a bit off which I manage to set it back using the vertical alignment tool that I bought from Ebay. There is one strange effect that some time appear every time I took direct picture against Sun which shown in the picture below. Is any one have the same issue? I just need to know if this is the result of dropped, or other. Because my camera was dropped just 2 weeks after I've got it, which I don't take much picture during that period. Cheers, Julius
Advertisement Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Hi Julius Yls, Take a look here M-E: Can sensor damaged after dropped?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jonogilmour Posted October 14, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 14, 2013 Tried another lens? A different SD card? Anything? The issue you are seeing is just flare. If you don't have any pre-drop photos to compare to, there's no telling if it was because of the drop. That said, I doubt a drop onto the bottom of the camera will do much to the sensor. tobey bilek Posted October 14, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 14, 2013 It would be flare. Sensor damage most likely manifest as a crack, broken glass, or failure to record image. It could also be out of alignment which is difficult for user to check if minor. Look for one side or corner out of focus more than the others. The problem here that could also be lens elements out of place so you would need to check with multiple lenses.
edwardkaraa Posted October 14, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 14, 2013 I think it is always a wise idea to send the camera back to Leica for a thorough check up after a drop, even if no obvious damage is caused.

No, that's pretty normal (at least it is for the M8/9 class of camera) when shooting straight at the sun. It's an ugly effect that I think is a form of "blooming" (it's certainly blooming ugly:D). Bill W Posted October 14, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure what type warranty you have where you are but if it is Passport, I would send the camer to Leica and have it checked out.
Julius Yls Posted October 15, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted October 15, 2013 Thank you all for your advices! Jonogilmour, Tobey and Wattsy, I am now feel good knowing that it wasn't damage after I dropped I had tried with other lenses as well and the strange flare are appearing but looks different. Edward and Bill, I bought it new from Leica Vienna and I did emailed Hannes about the incident and he suggested to have it send to Solm for checking and repair the vertical alignment but it won't be under warranty since it was my mistake not the factory defect. I use the camera in daily basis so I can't afford not to have the camera for few days/week. But I managed to fix the vertical alignment which is very easy. However, I am feeling good knowing that the strange effect is just a flare. In the past I used Canon 5D and Leica X1 which never encounter that strange flare, until few month ago I sold my Canon gear and get a M-E.
