My dream is over.

I always wanted a Leica.

I bought a used M9 one month ago.

Then tonight, while driving towards the seaside to take some pictures during the weekend, I parked my car for ten minutes at a rest stop. For TEN MINUTES.

When I got back to the car, the following things were missing:

- half of the car dashboard (integrated sat nav, car stereo, climate controls, "iDrive" joystick)

- all the things that were in the boot (not visible from outside): my backpack with my MacBook Air (not mine, but from the office... even worse to some extent), a bag with clothes and an iPad and... above all... my Ona bag with the M9, 3 lenses and accessories

F__k.

Sorry, but there's no other word.

The a__hole didn't even understand what that tube-shaped bag was, and left it there, so now I'm still owner of a Manfrotto carbon tripod and a Gitzo ball head.

The thing is... I don't have a camera to attach to it anymore.

The car is a company car. I'm not sure the insurance will cover the cost of the M9 and lenses.

And the iPad can't be tracked (my only hope to find the a__hole who did this).

F__k.

This is sickening, I hope the insurance covers the items.

For others who are reading this thread I just want to stress the importance of insurances. It is worth the annual premium for the peace of mind. I pay about $950US per year for total coverage. No deductible and basically no questions asked. I was communicating with our agent last week to update last years inventory. I prepare an annual report that lists the serial number of each camera and lens and the replacement cost. This policy even covers "mysterious disappearance" I asked her what that means and she said if you are somewhere, get up and leave and forget your camera bag. I said that isn't mysterious, I am sixty years old and sometimes forget all kinds of things!

I am so sorry for your loss, I hope the story turns out better than it is at the moment.

That is one of the saddest and scariest stories that I have heard for quite some time.

I can only try to imagine how dreadful you must be feeling.

It could so easily happen to any of us. In this country insurance for the sort

of camera gear that I have is very difficult to get and very expensive. I don't have it.

Your story made my blood run cold.

The MBA might be trackable. Go to iCloud.com and log in with your Apple ID. See if you can track it. Doesn't your credit card have some sort of purchase protection, that could apply?

Hi! That is a great policy. Which Insurance company do you use? Thanks.

Best,

Sorry to hear about this and I hope for some recovery.

For the others, nothing is safe in a car ever no where.

When we travel, one of us is always in the car when the other takes a break.

If you go in a place to eat, take valuables with you and park where the car can be seen from inside

Rest stops are some of the most dangerous places to actually rest..

And it doesn't matter if you are in the car either...

They can still get you..

What company do you use? I have renters insurance and I believe it covers items stolen from a car.

Riders are available to premium home policies such as AIG's Private Client Group or Chubb's Masterpiece. One can generally cover about $25k worth of gear for less than $500 annually. Mine has no limitations, worldwide, with no deductible at full replacement value (with automatic increase up to +50% in the event costs rise and/or models change).

I'm sad to hear stories like this, and encourage others to check out options, as these may vary significantly by country, by company and by individual circumstance.

Hey Andy, this is very sad to hear! I only hope, the insurance will cover the gear!

It is always to late to mention such things after the fact, and I am maybe paranoid about this, but NEVER leave anything in a car, if it is not easily replaceable and covered financially.

Thieves are fast and specialised - the criminal would probably have gotten your gear, if you stopped even just two minutes.

I am glad, no personal harm has been done, just valuables.

Very bad....

So sorry to hear, especially after following your whole journey getting your M9.

Hope things work out.

You should post the serial number and let Leica know as well.

I'll also suggest you give notice to camera shops in the area.
