Pobble Posted October 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've seen contradictory suggestions about card size and getting faster startup times - 16GB Sandisk Extreme or Extreme Pro being recommended versus 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro. Any experience with this issue?

lct Posted October 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2013 Welcome to the forum. I did not try 64 GB cards as the bigger the cards the longer the startup times in my experience. http://tinyurl.com/kp8qe83
MTWIZARD Posted October 11, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2013 Hello everyone Read Thorsten Overgaard's recommendations on cards
Pobble Posted October 12, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted October 12, 2013 The O internet review recommending a 64 GB SD card is at odds with other comments that state that 16 GB SD cards will result in shorter startup times. That's the quandary - will smaller SD Extreme Pro cards or bigger Extreme Pro SD cards yield shorter startup times. And are very fast cards such as the San Disk extreme Pro even necessary for use on the M? To get an answer more data is needed - what is the experience of other M typ 240 users? lct Posted October 12, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2013 From 8 GB to 32 GB my spreadsheet above is self explanatory. The smaller and faster the better. I have no experience with 64 GB cards though but with respect to Thorsten i will probably order a 16 GB Toshiba 260 MB/s instead.

Overgaard Posted October 12, 2013 Share #8 Posted October 12, 2013 LCT, Does that mean that Sandisk SD Extreme III (1 GB) is the fastest in your test?
Overgaard Posted October 12, 2013 Share #9 Posted October 12, 2013 My experience is that the 64GB Sandisk 95MB/sec card is the fastest startup time, though it may need to be 'refeshed' with formatting once in a while. lct Posted October 14, 2013 Share #13 Posted October 14, 2013 Just received a used sample of Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s 64 GB card. With 1.7 second startup time, it is now at the third place among my 17 tested cards. A good surprise for me as i expected significantly worse given the mediocre results of my 32 GB cards. Still far from one second though, let alone the 0.2 second of my old 5D1. For those interested, my updated spreadsheet can be downloaded here: http://tinyurl.com/kp8qe83. mitasol Posted October 14, 2013 Share #14 Posted October 14, 2013 I use a 64 GB Sandisk extreme 45MBs, I haven't bothered to clock start up time but it is not an issue. I tried a Sony 16GB 94 MBs and it didn't seem to make any difference. Cheers
