The announcement is an official announcement. If you take a look at the link you will find several links to Sony's japanese website, where all the information is taken from....... Yes I realise the links were to the official Japanese announcement. I wasn't sure though whether the list of specs in English was a direct translation or the poster's quick summary. My question is the prevailing evidence about whether or not either the Summicron 35 or Summarit 35 work well on the A7. I have a FE 35/2.8 but I am not happy with its character. I also have a C-40 Summicron which works well (very sharp, no smearing or colour shift). However, even though it is only a 5mm difference I do find it a tad restricting. Can anyone post samples of the A7 with either of the two Leica lenses - or point me at examples? Many thanks LouisB Sean Reid has done some tests of the A7r with Leica and Voigtlander f2.5 Skopar and Leica f2 ASPH. While there are some corner issues Sean suggests the 35mm lenses are the turning point in the difficulties of using wider M mount lenses on the A7r. Nevertheless many or most 35s will have tinted corners at wide apertures. The CV 35 f1.2 will cover fully, as will 40mm Cron. Some 50s will not produce acceptable corners. This was the problem with the A7r that I returned. The shutter vibration made it impossible to use longer lenses like the magnificent R-tele APO glass. I will take a wait and see with this new offering by Sony. I am still using my R-glass with much better results on my M. I understand the importance of IS for long R-glass, but I'm going to wait and see this time before I jump in this time. The Sony A7r was totally unacceptable for M or R glass. Rick, I think that for tripod mounting my long Leica R lenses that I have somewhere like a 75% success rate (maybe more) using some technique and ways of locking things down with my A7r. I also just received an M WATE to use for the wide end on my A7r to supplement my R 28mm f2.8 Elmarit V2. Well, this late in the technology refresh cycle I wouldn't get the older cameras, namely A7, A7R, or A7S. Don't misunderstand me. I have no regrets having bought the A7R. I still have it and use it a lot, including with a WATE. The A7II is adding In-Body-Image-Stabilization - Olympus calls it IBIS, Sony has a different name for it - to the A7. The A7II also can autofocus a bit better. Apparently, early next year there also will be an A9 camera coming to market. I will wait for the first reviews before I decide which new Sony camera to get. To the differences, the A7S has 12 MP, the A7, A7II 24 MP, and the A7R 36 MP. These cameras also differ in other aspects, like shutter, ISO choices, etc or how Leica M lenses perform on them. The A7R seems the most challenging. The WATE works fine on it, just like on my M9. The 50 Summilux is certainly useable, the 35 Summilux can create some discoloration at the image boundaries. It is far superior. Also note that there are no reports of any Leica or Zeiss or Voigtlander M lenses not working excellently on the A7S, even the 15mm Voigtlander (I have not heard about the 12mm yet) The A7S is quite a different beast as I have found. I think I will buy it and the WATE and call it a day. I assume with the high ISO performance, that the WATE will perform well on this body, even indoors, since the ISO can make up the stops? I do not have any 'long' lenses and use my A7r exclusively with my 75mm Cron, with my M240 being used with 50lux most of the time. I also tend to shoot my A7r most of the time on the tripod, to get the best from the sensor. So, for me, i am not tempted by the next iteration of the A7r, but will consider and look at the A9. But, will of course, continue to use my M240 also A7r + 75cron Welcome, dear visitor! I've seen good results from the 50 'cron. I've experienced poor to fair results with 50mm 'lux and 28mm Elmarit. Let me ask some basic questions: I will buy the WATE, but i would like a 35mm lens for the A7s. I have a 35 cron that won't work. I also have a 50 lux, so that should be ok based on the research. Is there anything wrong with the zeiss/sony AF 35mm lens and 55mm lens? Not my perfect approach, but I am considering getting these, and using the WATE and my 50 lux. Would this approach work well? Alternatively, i purchase a used 40 cron i think as the best option. (most cost effective at least) I am trying to tide myself over, past my M9 and enough to buy a used version of the next M.
