I agree at this point.

This has encouraged me to consider ordering the 55 f/1.8 FE and do the same against M240+50Lux. If that turns out similar then I'm 2/3 of the way to smaller, lighter, cheaper and amazingly a better carry round system. Bit shocked at how good it is.

While the 35/2.8 is a very good lens, the 55/1.8 will be truly outstanding. My plans are starting to take shape and they're similar to yours :)

Could be. Again I'll reserve judgement until I've shot with it. Steve Huff tends to indicate that it's 35FE > 55FE in his view. Also I really need to know when the 85 or similar is out and if it's Zeiss first. Even if the 55 beats the lux I'm still a lens short of my required trio. Maybe the good reception will adjust the investment flow / priority.

To my eyes, the A7r+FE combination seems to give the best results overall. At f/2.8 and f/4, the cron seems to have a weakness in the borders and corners on the M, and is completely unusable at those apertures on the A7r. Very illuminating test. Thanks again!

Thanks, it appears to be that way, doesn't it?

And a really big Thank You to dwbell for making the RAW images available!

I am glad I ordered that winning combination! Patiently waiting for their arrival!

So what do we already have pretty much ascertained will work on the A7R?

Leica WATE

Sony FE35Z2.8

Leica 75/2 presumably

Leica 90/2.8 presumably

I can't quite tell from Thomas' images whether the Leica 28/2.8 also makes the cut?

Many thanks to Thomas Chen as well for his images indeed!

According to all the available data, including Sony's own "calculated" MTF and real life samples, the 55 is the superior lens. If the rumors are true, the next lens will be a Zeiss 85/1.8. In the meanwhile any Leica M lens from 50 and above should perform well on the Sony with no smearing or color shading. Even if the 85/1.8 turns out to be stellar I'm not letting go easily of my Sonnar 85 ZM.

No worries.

From my side let me ask you to hold off on giving the 75/2 a thumbs up. I just haven't done enough with it for me to give it a yay or nay.

This is like the anti- Leica but I just, very easily, connected my ipad to my A7R over a closed network and watched live view on the ipad, triggered the shutter, changed EV etc.

I know some of you kids know all this, but CRIKEY this opens up some serious usefulness here! It was snappy performance too. Incredible.

Edit - was it Alan thinking about the canon 17 TS lens for interiors? If so, this is like the camranger system for can ikon but in built.

Thanks. Okay, however I recall having seen some impressive images of the 75/2 on A7R on the web.

Nevertheless I am looking forward with increasing anticipation to your 75/2 images!

Nice, isn't it?

I have been shooting my D800E that way, completely controlled from my iPad!

Oh yeah? Sweet.

Coming from the still not finished M9 firmware this is light years away for the gnomes in Solms. This type of integration has enormous potential.

I don't think I could have gotten this shot http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/272579-hairy-woodpecker-female.html if I had stood there with camera in hand! :D

BTW, please note I used an about 50 years old Leitz lens.

I wouldn't be amazed if the TE 135/4 also worked well on the A7R.

I guess I will find out as soon as my A7R arrives, if not earlier.

The TE 135/4 is readily available.

Yes I am thinking of it as well as using my other TSE and PC lenses on it for the higher res. But I won't buy an A7r until there is C-1 and DXO support for the files... even if there is no C-1 tethering support. I have an unfounded hope that Canon will make a similar camera soon.

I have been using the wifi on my Nex 6 and that is really slick. But I find tethering works well for interiors since the computer is generally very close to the camera and it has to transfer raw files quickly. I also have a USB wired connection between my Android phone and Canon cameras via DSLR controller. That gives a lot of capability,

Leica Tri Elmar 16-18-21mm f/4 ("WATE") @ 16mm @ f/8:

Out-of-camera JPEG (16mm f/8):

Same image developed from RAW with Adobe Camera Raw 8.3 RC1 and distortion profile (for Leica Tri Elmar 16mm) applied as well as vignette reduction:

Another shot at different weather&light conditions also 16mm f/8 with vignette reduction:

As you can see, the WATE produces sharp edges at f/8. Color shift is negligible and only distinguishable 16mm in particular situations.

The result at 18mm and 21mm as well as for other aperture settings (f/4 and f/5.6) can be found in this album: Leica WATE on Sony A7R - a set on Flickr

It will be continously updated.

Many thanks indeed. That's great!

This looks really good to me, certainly much better than merely useable.
