Advertisement Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hi huwge, Take a look here Cloudy Gherkin. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted April 13, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 13, 2007 Huw Ge - Â This is the best Gherkin photo I recall. The light, contrast, tonal range, details, sky and older buildings in the foreground all conspire to make this superb.
billh Posted April 14, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 14, 2007 That's wild. Where is this?
JE Posted April 14, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 14, 2007 Great composition combined with a beautiful sky. Nicely seen. I love the old and new. Jonathan
spylaw4 Posted April 14, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 14, 2007 That's wild. Where is this? Â Bill - it's in the City of London. Although known as the Gherkin, officially it's the Swiss Re Insurance building. Design Norman Foster. Â Oh and Huw - it's a cracking photo!
huwge Posted April 14, 2007 Author Share #6  Posted April 14, 2007 Yes - it is probably better say that it is 30 St. Mary Axe, in the City of London as Swiss Re recently sold it.  It's an amazing construction, I am still trying to build up the nerve to take some pictures from the inside. The view from the restaurant at the top can be fabulous, you forget how green London is as a metropolitan area. I am there once a month, so one time I must pull the camera out  Huw

semrich Posted April 14, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted April 14, 2007 The tones in this make it a very special photo especially in the detail of the older buildings.
huwge Posted April 14, 2007 Author Share #9 Â Posted April 14, 2007 Given the sky, I find it odd that by rotating a half turn I was able to take this as more or less the next shot. There is some amazing architecture in the City and the weather can really bring a huge extra dimension to stone, glass and steel.
huwge Posted April 14, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted April 14, 2007 Andy, I really like the floating flowers picture - also the grub up there is not too bad either! I must remember to take the camera next time. Huw
