Marac Posted October 3, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Local Cash Converters, popped in to see what they have and could not believe my eyes when I looked in the camera cabinet. I have always dreamed about one day owning a Leica M2 (goes back to my mentor years ago) and there was a minty (pics to follow) Leica M2 WITH a superb Summicrom 2/50, both made in 1962 (happens to be my year of manufacture too). "How much", I asked expecting to hear millions of pounds. "£550" he said. I kept a straight face and offered £500, they accepted and now I have a permanent GRIN plastered all over my face. The camera is excellent with no scuffs or marks and the lens... HA! it would pass as new, seriously NEW including the glass there is not a single mark ANYWHERE. Sorry but I simply had to share with people who would understand my delight. I will post pics as soon as my heart rate is slow enough to move safely
Advertisement Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Hi Marac, Take a look here I'm DELIGHTED! just got a BARGAIN!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted October 3, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 3, 2013 Sounds a good buy! You need to put a roll of film through it to make sure the shutter is working correctly and there's no leaks etc. I've picked up a few bargains in those stores too, no Leica M's though! koray Posted October 3, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 3, 2013 If both are in mint condition, then you got them for at least half price, maybe even cheaper. Great deal! Enjoy! K.
earleygallery Posted October 3, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 3, 2013 I think those stores do a price check on eBay and use the average. I base this on their typical prices for stuff I've looked at/bought. They also give a warranty - I probably wouldn't take a Leica back though! I bet they looked at average prices for M2's, not realising that they don't come with a 'kit' lens! Anyway, which branch was this......
Marac Posted October 3, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted October 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Cash Converters in Stevenage in Hertfordshire. I like recycle shops so I visit them whenever I see them but seldom find a bargain like this. The lens and camera date to 1962 (June) so I guess the original case is the same and that this was bought together. I was born in June 1962 so this is definitely MY camera. The Lens, being chrome, looks and works great on my chrome 240 so my poor black Cron 50 has been relegated to the bag, for now.
250swb Posted October 3, 2013 Share #8 Posted October 3, 2013 Well done, a wonderful opportunity! I think that at the price, if genuinely mint, and with the Summicron, even if you needed a service you would be on the money if not ahead. For me the M2 is the perfect simple M, much more user friendly than the M3. Steve

dkCambridgeshire Posted October 5, 2013 Share #10 Posted October 5, 2013 Nobody in their right mind who knows anything about Leica would default on a loan made using an M2/50 Leica as security ... and neither would they sell it to Cash Convertors. You have a bargain but someone at some stage could have lost out big time on the camera. dunk

You have a bargain but someone at some stage could have lost out big time on the camera. dunk I have been at both ends of that one. I guess I got lucky this time. I had thought that maybe someone had inherited the kit and simply didn't know what they had. Either way, I am really enjoying it and it is getting the LOVE it deserves.
