dblrifle Posted September 30, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted September 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have 2 M8 bodies and on both the frame counter shows 999 and never changes. Do I have to set something in the menus to get it to count down? Doesn't really bother me as I have rather large cards in both cameras. I have read the book thru and can't seem to find any reference. Any help would be appreciated. Also how accurate is the battery condition indicator in the same window. This weekend I was shooting and the battery had not been charged in some time and it was showing 2 bars and after about 40 exposures it just quit from dead battery. Charged the battery (took about 2 hours) and all ok with battery indicator showing fully charged. It's an old battery, could it be giving up the ghost? Not opposed to some new batteries but at $115 each they are ,for me, a big investment.
Advertisement Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Hi dblrifle, Take a look here Frame counter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted September 30, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted September 30, 2013 999 is as high as the counter can go, so if your card holds say 1500 images it won't read less than 999 until you've shot 502 frames.
dblrifle Posted September 30, 2013 Author Share #3 Â Posted September 30, 2013 It does and that is the conclusion I had come too. Really kinda makes it of no real value as to counting exposures. But then again I suppose it is only when you are getting close to full that it is of significance. Thank you for confirming my assumption.
lct Posted September 30, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted September 30, 2013 Suffice it to use smaller cards. 8 GB is perfect. As for batteries, generics can be cheap but you'll have to discharge them fully in the camera before recharging to avoid false meter readings. Â Fact of life, often after a few years, even if Leica batteries. Â As lct, I prefer smaller cards on my M8.2; pic count is not a problem. dblrifle Posted September 30, 2013 Author Share #6 Â Posted September 30, 2013 lct, just for information my cards ARE 8gb. I shall probably buy another battery but it will be a Leitz and not an aftermarket. I shoot erractically enough that I can't bother with the regimen required to use aftermarket batteries. Just a personal thing. Thanks all for your response it is appreciated.

Then choose "DNG", "DNG + JPG Fine" or "DNG + JPG Basic" in the Compression menu and your counter will show less than 999 remaining frames.
