StephenPatterson Posted September 27, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted September 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) X Vario has a list price in the US of $2850. Yesterday a dealer in Hong Kong offered me a new (grey market from Europe) X Vario for $2200. If you have been considering this little camera but think the price is too high then at what price point do you jump in?
Advertisement Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Hi StephenPatterson, Take a look here X Vario...At What Price Would You Buy?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Yes, full warranty through Leica AG, but not from the (mostly) worthless HK Distributor, Schmidt Marketing. Doesn't matter anyway as Schmidt just send everything to Germany anyway, although they often screw that up...
enboe Posted September 27, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted September 27, 2013 The price is acceptable, especially given that I paid $1995 for the X1 when it was released. For used, I try not to go over 65% of new, as no warranty accompanies the purchase.
iedei Posted September 27, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted September 27, 2013 $500 i'd consider it. Â anything above that i'd rather consider all the other great options out there that aren't Leica OR over $1k i'd rather buy an old Leica film M like an M2 that i've wanted OR a spare M8
beewee Posted September 27, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted September 27, 2013 Until Leica fixes the AF glitches and other firmware bugs, I'd avoid it. Â I have one and it's sat in the drawer for the last 3 months. Each time I need a camera, I grab my M8.2. YMMV
Ecaton Posted September 27, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted September 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Prices are dropping like a stone. My Leica dealer recently offered me a 15% discount without me even asking about the camera or pricing. In the used section there was one for Euro 1690 compared to a sticker price of Euro 2450 for a new one. They will be available for USD 1500 soon. jaapv Posted September 27, 2013 Share #10 Â Posted September 27, 2013 It is an attractive camera in my perception. If I would want to buy one (which not- my stable is full) I would not hesistate to buy it at list. Although any discount is always welcome.

vcs700s Posted September 27, 2013 Share #12  Posted September 27, 2013 There is no point in buying a camera that almost works  The X Vario works fine. I have shot 4,000 frames with it and the results are fantastic. The feedback on the pics has been more than I expected.  The XV is a new camera, and like most new cameras, could use a firmware update. Why should it be different than an other Leica that uses firmware?

Guest badbob Posted September 28, 2013 Share #14 Â Posted September 28, 2013 The next step up from the X Vario is about $10000, making the X Vario (almost as good as the M's in some ways, and better in other ways) a fantastic bargain.
iforum Posted September 28, 2013 Share #15  Posted September 28, 2013 Focus issues are a real problem if they are a bit iffy in operation as Fuji, Leica etc display............. at least with a rangefinder one knows where the fault lies  Jaapv I doubt if you would be happy with X sure you could live with it but I doubt if it would be a satisfying way to go
nippa Posted September 28, 2013 Share #16 Â Posted September 28, 2013 I'm in no hurry to buy. I'm also waiting to see what Leica does about the focusing problem but at the back of my mind is what Sony may bring out after the RX1. Â Must say I like the look of the lens when it focuses. Â Had not I read some of the posts here, I wouldn't even know that there are "problems" with the X Vario. Â Got to agree with you on the great value for the money part. The X Vario turns out to be even better than I expected it to be!
