X Vario...At What Price Would You Buy?

X Vario has a list price in the US of $2850. Yesterday a dealer in Hong Kong offered me a new (grey market from Europe) X Vario for $2200. If you have been considering this little camera but think the price is too high then at what price point do you jump in?

I would go for it, if there is a warranty, but this is coming from someone who paid full price and is glad he did!

Yes, full warranty through Leica AG, but not from the (mostly) worthless HK Distributor, Schmidt Marketing. Doesn't matter anyway as Schmidt just send everything to Germany anyway, although they often screw that up...

Prices are dropping like a stone. My Leica dealer recently offered me a 15% discount without me even asking about the camera or pricing. In the used section there was one for Euro 1690 compared to a sticker price of Euro 2450 for a new one. They will be available for USD 1500 soon.

I'd jump in at any price point below $2850, but I did purchase mine for full $2850. :D

Seriously though, for grey market but with warranty, $2200 is fine, that's my opinion.

There is no point in buying a camera that almost works

The X Vario works fine. I have shot 4,000 frames with it and the results are fantastic. The feedback on the pics has been more than I expected.

The XV is a new camera, and like most new cameras, could use a firmware update. Why should it be different than an other Leica that uses firmware?

The next step up from the X Vario is about $10000, making the X Vario (almost as good as the M's in some ways, and better in other ways) a fantastic bargain.

Focus issues are a real problem if they are a bit iffy in operation as Fuji, Leica etc display............. at least with a rangefinder one knows where the fault lies

Jaapv I doubt if you would be happy with X sure you could live with it but I doubt if it would be a satisfying way to go

$500 i'd consider it.

anything above that i'd rather consider all the other great options out there that aren't Leica OR over $1k i'd rather buy an old Leica film M like an M2 that i've wanted OR a spare M8

not sure the point of these posts

you don't like a camera you have never used or owned

The XV is amazing quality and works fine thanks, including pin sharp focus on moving subjects, non-moving subjects and those in between

All the problems are exaggerated, picture quality is great. I have had the camera for a week, great value for money.

Had not I read some of the posts here, I wouldn't even know that there are "problems" with the X Vario.

Got to agree with you on the great value for the money part. The X Vario turns out to be even better than I expected it to be!
