Today in Napa wine country on one of the nicest autumn days of this year  -  encountered this scene rounding a curve on Silverado trail just South of St. Helena

M-P / 35mm f1.4 Summilux FLE…….other than some slight cropping, pretty much as it came out of the camera. The fall colors this year are the gaudiest I've seen in 36 years of living in Northern California.

A very old cork-tree. I see it every day on my "health walk", and only got the idea to take a picture after having looked at this thread. It still shows traces of the ancient cork cuts.

This one is is puzzling in more ways then one. Two suns where they are not.

mirrored in..?

straight topping of the trees in the background?

weird growth of the tree in the foreground?

Lovely image. Beautiful silhouette and sky!  :)

Thanks for your kind comment - the tree and the shrubbery are mirrored in a little pond.

Instead of explanations  - if a picture doesn't work, it won't do it with too many words around - have a look perhaps to the following two photos of the same scenery:
The first is just the original, now in the right manner with the tree on headstand.
The second in portrait format shows something of the surroundings of the little pond.
Hope that helps a little bit.

This is a knot on a cedar tree that is at least 800 years old. It lives in part of the Confucius Temple in Beijing.

My daughter asked for a big print of this image for Christmas. I scanned the XP2 negative at high resolution, used Silver Efex Pro to get the interpretation I wanted, and sent the file to Ilford Lab Direct in the UK, who made a 20 x 30 inch genuine silver print. I dry mounted, matted and framed the print, and the final result was really pretty good. I would have liked to make the print myself, but I can’t handle anything that big without a big investment in appropriate equipment – not worth it for the very rare times I would make a print this big. And the print from Ilford matched exactly what I was seeing on my screen. A wonderful service.

I don’t normally discuss equipment or technique, but the result was so satisfactory that I thought I would record and share the approach.
