If you're going to the Leica store, just buy the one that works best. No need of an optician. As Jaap says, your target should be two metres away.

They usually have to order them...:o

Some forty years ago Leica supplied their dealers with this handy device. Unfortunately it is a rare collector's item now...

I have been using diopters on Leica cameras for a long time. My vision is 20/400, which means I need glasses for distance. So,

Simply put .....

20/400 (for me), ..... equals a -4 diopter

Whatever your glasses Rx is, that will determine your diopter. (not talking astigmatism .... )

If the picture in the camera is sharp and clear. That's the diopter to use.

If the dealer does not have a Leica selection .... any brand should do. I have taped -4 Nikon, Bronica and Pentax diopters onto Leica finders, Visoflexes, etc. They all worked fine.

again,

If the picture is sharp in the finder, the diopter is Ok.

Fussy people will disagree ......
