jsjxyz Posted September 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 24, 2013 Enjoy your review, I am also using the 35/75 combo , and I just acquire the MM, replacing my M9.
Mixalis Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 24, 2013 Enjoy your review, I am also using the 35/75 combo , and I just acquire the MM, replacing my M9. Thanks. As I say in the article, you will really appreciate the MM after the M9. Sure, you lose the colour but you gain a bucketful of fun and greater satisfaction. Guest malland Posted September 24, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 24, 2013 Mike, you may want to correct the statement about the M-Monochrom and the M9-P having gorilla glass LCDCs — actually the LCDs on these cameras are sapphire glass, which is tougher. —Mitch/Paris Tristes Tropiques [WIP]

I was misled talking to my dealer. We were chatting about Gorilla glass because I was buying a hard-coated protector. He said it wasn't necessary, I felt it was because I have a good track record of shattering iPhone Gorilla glass. I'll change and thanks for the heads up. JimKasson Posted September 24, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mike, you might want to repost the link without the SSL (https://) prefix, since your SSL certificate is invalid. The link works fine if you manually change the prefix to http://, but many will not think to do that. Great review! Jim

The link works fine if you manually change the prefix to http://, but many will not think to do that. Great review! Jim Thanks Jim. That's a strange one and I hadn't realised I had posted https. I know what happened. I copied the link while logged in to the host site on a secure link. Normally I keep a public copy of the site loaded so I can grab the URL from there. I will amend. Thanks again.
Mixalis Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted September 24, 2013 I am reposting this because the link at the top of this thread was inadvertently taken from m secure server and was therefore invalid. The new link is below. Here is the correct link Mike
Mixalis Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted September 24, 2013 Jim Kasson has pointed out that the link in my earlier Review of Leica Monochrom is not working. Inadvertently I included a secure //hpps link which obviously doesn't work. This is the correct link: http://macfilos.com/photo/2013/9/23/leica-monochrom-life-in-black-and-white Sorry about the confusion.

Jim Quick correction, the certificate is valid but it doesn't match the hostname since the certificate was issued to squarespace.
jaapv Posted September 24, 2013 Share #12 Posted September 24, 2013 But Safari gives an invalid certificate warning. Quite a few users will not disregard.

norm_snyder Posted September 25, 2013 Share #16 Posted September 25, 2013 Thank you Mike, for the post. I just took delivery of my Monochrom a few days ago, and have not yet installed Silver Efex Pro2, but DxO film pack and curve adjustments have provided results that have knocked me out. Your photos illustrate what this tool can do. Like you, I am also using a 35mm Summicron, as well as the 75mm APO Summicron. I am amazed at the resolution that is available, and the detail I can dig out of the highlights.
Jeff S Posted September 25, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 25, 2013 I like the heading "Build Quality" below the pic of the girl with sunglasses; makes a nice caption. I'm surprised you prefer the discreet setting on the MM to the shutter sound of the M240, which in my view is always discreet; no obnoxious motor sound that happens after every MM shot, even if delayed. And the shutter release itself is much smoother IMO on the new M. Different strokes, so to speak. Jeff
Mixalis Posted September 25, 2013 Author Share #18 Posted September 25, 2013 I like the heading "Build Quality" below the pic of the girl with sunglasses; makes a nice caption. Jeff Jeff, you will not be surprised to hear that the placing was not unintentional. I was looking for somewhere to insert George James's excellent photo (better than my efforts, I keep telling him) and it sort of slipped in above that sub-head. As for the discreet shutter you make a good case. I didn't like it at first on the M9 and deselected. Then I found the previous owner of my Mononochrom had switched it on and I sort of bonded with it.
roguewave Posted September 25, 2013 Share #19 Posted September 25, 2013 Nice review. I'm in my 60's and grew up shooting Kodachrome. I sold several images I took as a kid at the 1964 Worlds Fair. I like the MM, but the monochromic images from the MM don't strike me has having any fidelity with the real world. I love details & love B&W photography. I own several Leica M cameras, film & digital. Unless one is afflicted with an inability to see in color, I don't quite understand all the fuss & commotion. Again, I love B&W photography, but it needs to strike home in a profound way to have any real impact. For me, color is much more powerful and indelible. Do you dream in B&W? Bill W Posted September 25, 2013 Share #20 Posted September 25, 2013 Very well written Mike. It is at a level of understanding that everyone can grasp even me. I want one! I want one!
