GabrielIndalecio Posted September 23, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Need some help to identify what can be cause for green flare on both shots? Camera operates well and, no issues on the sensor but when using Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.4 at night ISO 640 1/30 Sec both pictures showed strong flare effect with green light going. No Lens Hood attached. No flares at all during daylight. Welcome, dear visitor! otto.f Posted September 23, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2013 Seems to me these are two different phenomena. First is a sensor problem, second seems optical ( light source above camera, e.g. a lamppost?) which is quite normal if you don't use a hood
jaapv Posted September 23, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2013 The first is caused by a strong highlight striking the reference pixels on the edge of the sensor. Most sensors show it rarely if ever, the M8 was particularly prone to it. It has been reported once or twice on the M9. The second is simple lens flare. Use a hood, no filter and if it happens shift your position slightly. The Nokton is not particularly flare-resistant.
brill64 Posted September 23, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2013 both operator errors. this is taken using an M8 & is not really a sensor problem with your particular camera. First green stripe is caused by the bright light source just on the bottom edge of the frame...avoid this when framing. Second is flare because you didn't use a lens hood &/or had a filter attached. Shield with your hand & remove filters at night. I think the green colour at the top of Big Ben is just fluorescent or sodium lighting which makes it green. All your answers helped me to keep her using Leica Still, I do see many people with a grand Nikon with the hood on, but vice versa ( so with no effect), plus filter,
01af Posted September 23, 2013 Share #11 Posted September 23, 2013 Thanks—no return policy ... The M8 came out in 2006, that is seven years ago ... or one and a half eons, in digital-camera terms. But it still is a great camera. Wait until your daugther tries taking digital infra-red pictures! You just mustn't have bright sources of light right at the frame's border (inside the frame or outside the frame it's okay ... but not at the frame's border). And oh, the flare in the second picture is lens-induced, as jaapv and brill64 already have pointed out.
