Steve Huff, Sony and DXO

On Steve Huffs site there is a link to the DXO site who, in conjunction with Sony, provide the full (?) DXO download. I've just downloaded it and it seems to be the full Version 3, stand alone and, for me PS4 plug in. I noticed on installation that lightroom 3 plugin was available, and some other plugins.

The activation code is sent to your email.

The application isn't Sony specific.

There comes a point when I wonder how many more plug-ins I really need. I am still learning the Nik package which covers many more options than I will ever use or need. I am well pleased with the mono conversions possible in LR5 even before I consider Nik options. So you will understand why I am prepared to pass on this offer, despite it being free.

Considering the last point; very few products are truly free. The fact of signing up for the offer opens a Pandora's box of unwanted emails for months to come, despite setting options to filter them. Sometimes even worse invaders try to wreak havoc with our fragile systems. But let's not go down that path.

I do thank the OP and Steve Huff for publicising potentially useful freebies.

with an interesting description of how Salgado use it to create silver prints from digital files, very interesting.

As a long time user of Silver Efex Pro I downloaded the Film Pack 3 with some scepticism but am very pleasantly surprised. The film presets seem to me to be far more accurate and subtle in their distinctions, the grain and the tonality being much closer to reality. This can in no way replace Efex, but as a stop off point to get the grain and basic contrast right it looks darned good to me.

Is my installation bugged or is it not possible to install this version as a plug-in for LR or PS?

I can only install the standalone version, which only supports opening TIFF and JPEG's... Sort of useless without plug-in integration in PS or LR.

Nevermind. I had to manually copy the photoshop plugin to CC's plug-in folder.

What other formats could you want it to work in?

TIFF is the standard format for high quality work, and JPEG for 'sharing'.

If you installed it via the instructions it will appear in Photoshop under Filter > DxO Labs>..

As standalone supports TIFF and JPEG, as plugin is supporting RAW's
