Amount of dead pixel still acceptable?

Hi,

As an entry into the Leica world, I just bought a M8 in a very good condition from a German dealer. Yesterday I was shooting some high-iso black&white pics just to see what's possible. In the final images I clearly saw one or two tiny white spots (about the size of a pixel I would guess) always at the same places.

Here's a 100% crop:

I immediately thought of dead pixel or something like that so I did two test shots with the following results:

Iso 1250, 1/30 sek, lens cap on

--> Original Picture

Iso 2500, 1/30 sek, lens cap on

--> Original Picture

In both shots you can clearly see some bright white pixels. It's getting worse at Iso 2500.

I'm not pixel peeing, I'd just like to know if the results of those two pictures are still acceptable.

I assume the bigger/brighter dead pixels can be mapped out by Leica.

Thanks!

Just send it in to Solms....

My first M8 had a hot pixel and was repaired under warrant after 8years!!!

They replaced the sensor at no cost.

The only thing to worry about is the coffeestain on the display.

I regret trading my "old" M8 for a M9 but yesterday I got lucky...

I bought a mint M8 with 2700 clicks and traded my Nikon 105 2.8VR for a very good price.

Make no mistake: the M8 is a very good camera (B&W and DNG).

I always shoot at Iso 160 and it's a dream. I use it next to my M9.

I think they must have known I would be a huge Leica fan.....

Good Luck and just shoot this M8....

Theo

Thanks a lot for your answers. Good to hear, that Leica will probably solve this problem at no cost. Luckily I don't see any coffeestain at the display.

I've been using D700 and X100s until now. Never really felt comfortable with the X100s. Like the D700 but never carry it with me due to its size.

I've sold my Nikkor 14-24 and will sell the X100s to fund the M8 with Summicron.

I really love the M8. It's simply special and so much fun to shoot with. Images coming out of this baby are just stunning. I've never seen anything close to that.

Ohh and one more thing: When my wife and I are going out, we don't say "let's take the camera with us" we say "let's take our Leica with us" ;) So M8 is already part of the family.
