Firmware 1.102 without IR filters

I have not yet received my filters from Leica. Should I go ahead and update to 1.102

or wait until I have the IR filters?

Yes, go ahead, It won't hurt any. I just downloaded the firmware update, and looking forward to trying it out with the filters which I already received.

I'm not sure how much difference there is without filters, but a day's shooting tells me that it's certainly just as excellent as before.

Firmware 1.102 doesn't have any great benefits without coded lenses. Other than minor bug fixes over 1.092, I think the majority of the changes were regarding the use of IR filters . Since the option to turn on the IR filter corrections is only available with coded lenses, the true benefits of 1.102 will only be seen once you have coded lenses.

 

It is not just the cyan corners that the UV/IR correction changes over 1.092, but I think there is an overall change in colour balance too. I am not sure if this colour balance change is just UV/IR filter related or just an overall change in colour balance with the new firmware. I don't know how you would test this though.
