Advertisement Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Hi ells@watleo.uwaterloo.ca, Take a look here Eyeglass protection with diopter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Luke_Miller Posted September 16, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 16, 2013 I am not positive, but there appears to be a thin ruberized coating on my diopters. I don't wear clases when using my Leica (because of the diopter), but I see no way the diopter could scratch the lens if I wore them.
ells@watleo.uwaterloo.ca Posted September 16, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 16, 2013 Thanks. I just got mine (aLeica) and it is a little textured and almost grainy, not at all like the rubber on the 1.4magnifier. I have expensive glass lens with multicoatings and do not want to compromise them. I use the diopter to focus in the rangefinder image with normal glasses as I cannot see anything without them
Luke_Miller Posted September 17, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2013 My +1.5 Leica diopter looks to have a thinner version of the rubberized coating of the 1.4 magnifier eyepiece. The surfaces look identical and have the same feel when sliding a fingertip over them. I vigorously rubbed my cheap, plastic lens reading glasses over the diopter with no damage whatsoever. Maarten Posted September 18, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2013 The Leica diopter will not scratch ophthalmic lenses, it's made of a soft type of plastic. Maarten
