jaapv Posted September 18, 2013 Author Share #22 Posted September 18, 2013 Shooting cannons at sparrows ... Think so? My repair person told me that he regularly gets cameras in with "defective" coding. He loves those jobs, as the repair consists of no more than wiping the LEDs clean after the owner has been using self-coded lenses. Lead pencil is one of the worst offenders. So I like my gear to be as reliable as possible. There is enough that can go wrong without my adding to it. (Not that I am unable to wipe a LED )
jaapv Posted September 18, 2013 Author Share #23 Posted September 18, 2013 Jaap, Not another case of dropsy I hope Wilson The LCD started acting up; I thought it was sensor failure - concentric purple rings. Leica tells me this is a first on all the LCDs they ever had, so it has to go through QC before being repaired. But they will expedite the process. I need the camera by next week Thursday latest. 01af Posted September 18, 2013 Share #24 Posted September 18, 2013 Think so? Yes, definitely. Lead pencil is one of the worst offenders. On most lenses, sure. But not on the white Novoflex strip. The graphite won't wipe off from that. So what you did is the equivalent of crashing through the door rather than just opening it because you didn't understand how the door handle works. Someone tried to tell you, but you didn't listen.
jaapv Posted September 18, 2013 Author Share #25 Posted September 18, 2013 Rather - I didn't care... I understand alright - it is just not the sort of "solution" that appeals to me.
noamc Posted December 10, 2013 Share #26 Posted December 10, 2013 Hi everybody, I d like to understand more I got a m240 and a elmarit r 135 I have the opportunity to get today the novoflex adaptator, the old one, not the coded one. Does it mean, that my lens won t work correctly on the camera ? Will I be able to use the live view mode and will I get an adapted framing on the rangefinder ? Or should I wait and try to get the new version 6bid coded ? Thanks
wlaidlaw Posted December 10, 2013 Share #27 Posted December 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The old Novoflex adapters bring up 50/75 framelines which is not a problem but they are all painted dead black over the LED area on the mount, which is. An M240 thinks no lens is mounted and will not activate live view to allow you to focus. Now you can clean off the paint on the adapter in this area and it will work but unless you have it coded 110111, you cannot access the R lens menu, even manually. Most M240 mounts are quite tight and unless you have recesses, tend to wipe off any hand markings against the LED’s, which starts to cause problems on reading all lens codes. I have given up trying to get hand codes working long term on the M240, on lenses/adapters without a coding recess or individual recesses. The M240’s LED’s are also very fussy on coding placement. I sent off all 5 of my uncoded lenses, where I was happily using hand coding with the M9, to Malcolm Taylor to have coding recesses milled into the mounts. Hopefully they will all be back later this week. In your case, I would be tempted to get the proper new coded Novoflex adapter, rather than fiddling about with the older uncoded one, which may or may not end up working. 01af Posted December 10, 2013 Share #28 Posted December 10, 2013 I got a M (Typ 240) and an Elmarit-R 135 mm. I have the opportunity to get today the Novoflex adaptor, the old one, not the coded one. There are several versions of the Novoflex LEM/LER adapter. The oldest have a plain black bajonet flange—these cannot be coded ... or rather, they can, but not easily (precision milling required). Does it mean that my lens won't work correctly on the camera? Will I be able to use the live-view mode and will I get an adapted framing on the rangefinder? Even with an uncoded adapter, all your R lenses will work just fine in live-view mode on the M (Typ 240). Coding is not required. The only thing you're going to miss is the EXIF data in the image files for focal length, max.aperture, and lens name for the lens used. But in the case of the Elmarit-R 135 mm, you can always select the Elmarit-M 135 mm manually from the M lens menu. You won't be able to use the rangefinder with R lenses, neither for framing nor for focusing—no matter whether the adpter is 6-bit-coded or not.
