Advertisement Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Hi Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS, Take a look here Super Duper SD card for the new M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Gerard Posted September 7, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2013 My biggest fear is a super duper sd card failing on the job. To avoid sheer disaster, I limit capacity to 16. Others may be more brave than I. I use Panasonic Gold, and have been very happy with them.
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted September 7, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2013 Approximately how many M full size pictures can you get on a 16k card
otto.f Posted September 7, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 7, 2013 I don't own an M240 but I prefer more small cards above less big cards; if a card stops there will less lost in that case. I use Lexar 8Gb for 4 years now without trouble. My Sandisks have given trouble, except my 16Gb on the MM. I'm not a speed guy when it comes to cards btw
Sekander Posted September 7, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2013 Since I got the beautiful M, I've been using Lexar Professional 32GB SDHC 400x Speed: ZERO problem writing 29Mb RAWs and writing video files to the card. Full satisfaction. I can only recommend it. Enjoy Leica M photography with plenty of space. Welcome, dear visitor! tonyep Posted September 7, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 7, 2013 I've been using the SanDisk Extreme Pro 32 GB for both the M9P and M240 as well as any other camera requiring SD cards. No problem so far.

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted September 7, 2013 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2013 Lossless compressed will allow you +800 on a 32GB john Hi JohnNever heard of that format......I normally like to take maximum size pictures so that I can easily crop if need be especially when I use the 21mm Lux

sillbeers15 Posted September 7, 2013 Share #14 Posted September 7, 2013 I've been using a Scan Disk 128GB SD Card in my M240 since 28 Feb 2013 without problems!
jdlaing Posted September 7, 2013 Share #15 Posted September 7, 2013 Confused Like the man said...... Lossless compression saves space and does no harm. Nobody knows why Leica did it. No one that I know of uses it. It also takes longer to,write the file to the card. Also......using those big cards over 16 gigs carries risk of a lot of lost images should something go haywire with the card.
lct Posted September 7, 2013 Share #16 Posted September 7, 2013 Exactly and the larger the cards the longer the startup times apparently, on the M240 at least. http://tinyurl.com/kp8qe83
johnbuckley Posted September 7, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 7, 2013 Another reason for not going beyond 16GB's is how much it slows down the uploading of files to your computer, as you have to sort through images on the card you didn't upload last time... My own sense is that 16GB is the Goldilocks size for the M240 -- not too big, not too small. I've been using the SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB cards (95mb/s), and they work nicely and cost less than 1GB cards did five years ago.
algrove Posted September 7, 2013 Share #18 Posted September 7, 2013 So does anyone shoot with the uncompressed option?? I do since to me the word lossless and compression do not belong together in the same phrase. They are mutually exclusive events. This has been discussed here before. If you read Jeff Schewe's book The Digital Negative he mentions he would not compress considering what might come along in a few years which you might benefit from by not compressing today. Besides storage is cheap, cheap, cheap. With the new M I have graduated to the card you got, but in 64GB. Overgaard recently mentioned it was a great and fast card for him with the new M. I have the 32GB ones also.
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted September 8, 2013 Share #19 Posted September 8, 2013 Another reason for not going beyond 16GB's is how much it slows down the uploading of files to your computer.Who gives a crap how long it takes to upload files to a computer.............get a mac with a thunderbold reader if need be, or better still surf the golf or porno channels while waiting for the files to upload:D Exactly and the larger the cards the longer the startup times apparently, on the M240 at least. http://tinyurl.com/kp8qe83 Its not a race.............keep the camera on 24/7 just tap the shutter release to wake the camera up when you need to shoot
efreed2754 Posted September 8, 2013 Share #20 Posted September 8, 2013 Also use 16 GB cards at 95mbs and use lossless based on prior discussion here. Card takes over 400 images. Agree about spreading the risk by using smaller cards. Used no compression for M9, but trying with M. Lou, mostly convinced lossless means it although I don't fully accept what technical people say. CDs being perfect sound forever 30 years ago just once case in point. Guess willing to live life dangerously in this case. Ed
