That is how our R adapter behaves (both Leica and Novoflex) but the behavior that I was expecting was that the M would automatically bring up the R lens selection menu as soon as I mount the adapter. Yes it remembers the last lens, but if I am changing R lenses I would not want to have to dive into the menu each time to select the proper lens.

Josh, You forget that the other possibilities that the adapter can: macro rings, duplicators, mounts and other Viso objectives that arise in the future are not necessarily linked to the current list of objectives R.

cheers,

Francisco.

The other point is that the SLR lens I use 80%+ of the time, when I would want a lens selected from the R lens menu, is the Zeiss Vario Sonnar 28-85, selected as a Vario Elmarit 28-90. I don't want to have to select this lens from a menu each time I mount it. If I need to change my R lens selection, it is only two button pushes away (Menu - Set) and takes a second or so.

I still cannot fathom why these are in short supply. No believable explanation from Leica has been made to date. My UK supplier, one of the UK's major Leica dealers, has received one R to M adapter and not a single MF adapter to date. Makes you want to buy a Sony A7R.

It seems each company has its own announcement and release schedule,

Leica-camera=5-6 months with teething problems, accessories 1 year plus, lenses already available.

Sony-camera=2 months (maybe) who knows about teething problems, accessories 2 months and more (maybe), lenses 2-24 months (maybe). Sony seems to be after the 4th quarter sales pickup. Maybe.

We at least should be able to update the maybe's soon (maybe):D

The adapter has a removable tripod foot. When the foot is off, there is a small plastic cover that hides the attachment point on the adapter. The adapter includes a small Allen wrench for installing the tripod foot. I'll post some images on Monday when I am back in the office.

The best part about the adapter over the Novoflex is the foot. Why you ask? Well, because thanks to the new design of the bottom plate, if you have the M attached to a tripod the entire camera needs to be removed to access the memory card or battery. With the Leica adapter attached I can use that to attach to my tripod, leaving the bottom plate easily accessible. This is especially handy if you are shooting video, and need to frequently remove the SD card to review footage.

I ordered my R to M adapter about a year ago and just received notice that it will be arriving next month, November. It is good that I had the Leice R to M adapter I purchased from Luigi years ago. Problem is I must keep hand coding it as the marker pen coding wears off and it no longer pulls up the R menu. I also look forward to the tripod foot as the Macro 2.8/100mm really needs it as it is so heavy. Good to know that they are finally arriving. Sincerely, George in Korea

Yes, but if you change R lenses with the adapter in place, there is no mechanism for the camera to detect whether there is even a lens mounted, still less the fact you are changing it so the camera is never going to work in the way you describe.

Can anyone give pricing information on the R adapter M? When I purchased the adapter No. 22228 from Luigi five years ago I thought $360 was expensive but on a photo trip on the west coast here in Korea, my friend said the adapter is coming in next month, November, and the price is around $950. Is that correct? For that price I think I will continue to hand code but I am temped because of the tripod foot. Even coming from Leica, I am suprised at the price that our dealer quoted a few weeks ago. George in Korea

In the UK it is £230 including 20% tax = $375.

I've been working with the Novoflex LEM/LER adapter for a few days now, and am underwhelmed. It seems accurate and flat in thickness, no soft edges that I can see. But the white dot worked only one time. I took it off and on the second and subsequent installations it is not recognized. Looking at the surface there seems to be a little of the white stripe that gets scratched away. Adding some white nail polish from my old M8 doityourself coding kit didn't change things. I'll try making the black blacker next. Has anyone else had the same experience with the Novoflex adapter on an M[240]?
