Hello Again eddyteddy,

If this is not a bayonet adapter on a screw mount lens:

Look at the markings for F22 on the lens barrel: If the line on the lens diaphram ring going from the "22" to where the diaphram dot is, is a DIAGONAL line then you have the "M" mount version designed to bring up the 50mm frame lines.

If the line on the diaphram ring goes in a STRAIGHT line to the position where the diaphram dot is then you have the version designed to bring up the 35mm & the 135mm frame lines together.

This is a lens which had a number of versions.

There is probably nothing to "fix".

Best Regards,

Michael

I have a Summaron 35mm F3.5 with a serial number of 1108435 and which I understand from an earlier thread to be an early version of the lens designed for the M3 with an external viewfinder (the M3 had frame lines starting at 50mm). It works fine on my M8 but I do need to either estimate the framing or use the preview lever if I need to be exact. Most of the time I just assume that most of what i can see will be in the image. I also understand that the lens can be altered to bring up a 35mm frame line but as this involves some metalwork I've no intention of going there. It's a nice, small lens which seems to work fine and which goes really with my chrome M8 as a walkabout lens - I have a 28, 50 and 90 too for more grown up stuff

Hello Michael! The line is indeed diagonal :-)

Thank you all for taking time to help a newbie! I'm happy to be a part of this community, and to share your respect and enthusiasm for those fine people in Wetzlar who made a thing of beauty last 60 years!

In a world of quick fixes and fancy garbage, I feel a connection to the idea of almost perpetual quality and beauty of old craftmanship. Only time will tell if I will bond with my Leica the way I hope. I need to become a slow shooter. As a kid I had a Konica C35 rangefinder. It was a great way to take pictures! Working with a digital camera is also great, but I end up taking 10 000 pictures. What am I supposed to do with 10 000 pictures..?

On the digital M most of the photos are used only to control and to improve the understanding of how to deal with analogue photography.

Maybe out of 10 000 digital photos stay only 5 left, which are worth for a greater picture on the wall at home.;)

Since it is possible to photograph digitally with the almost same procedure and lenses as with the analog Leicas, the waste of analogue film material has reduced considerably.:)

Yes, I guess I would not say no to a digital M if someone offered it to me... :-)

Just be patient, if Leica can produce enough M-240, prices for used M8 and M9 will continue to fall.

Let's hope that the electronics will still work, because the possibilities für repair will fall to almost zero too.:(

Well, Leica clstrives for at least ten years after production ends, so with the ME still up and running it should be some time hence.

Hopefully Leica secures enough spare parts and expertise, the coffee stain mishap was not a badge of honor.

It would be satisfactory if the software improvements would benefit also the older M8 and M9, but Leica says that they have no capacities to handle with the old Zeiss programmings.

Compared with mechanical Leicas a just 10 years repair option after the end of production is rather questionable for the digital Leica M system with always rising prices at highest level.

Hi, I just bought my first Leica, an M6 Classic. I hope I'm not asking a stupid question... I have a Summaron 35mm f/3.5 serial number 1179705, I think it might be from 1954? On my M6 the 35mm frame lines does not automatically show; I get the 50mm + 75mm. I have to turn the frame lever to get the 35mm + 135mm frame lines. I understand there is an issue with the goggles made for the M2. But reading about it, I get all confused. How do I know if my Summaron was designed to be used with goggles? If I so; shouldn't the M6 display the 35mm frames without the goggles? I understand some have filed down a detail on the lens to make it work without the goggles; could this be my problem? I would greatly appreciate any help from you good people of this forum :-)

PS: Also; the focus lock knob touches the frame lever, making close focusing a bit hard - is this "normal"?

I have the same problem with my Summaron 35/3/5. And I found it very easy to fix this! Just manually turn your lever to get 35mm frame, then, screw-up the screw next to it, just a little bit. So this screw will prevent the lever coming back. From now on, you can set frame lines manually like a switch. I hope this would help you!

With respect, Tan.
