MirekE Posted August 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I edited the copyright info in my camera, but if I open it in LR or exiftool, the top item (called Information in the camera menu) appears as the following between the quotes: "entered text ___________I". This is even more intriguing because the entered text, which is my email address, takes up all the available squares in the camera editor. The bottom item, where I entered my name looks correctly. Has anybody else observed this?
Advertisement Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Hi MirekE, Take a look here M240 Copyright Info and LR5. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted August 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2013 I always add copyright info on import; the camera has too few positions anyway and it lacks the © symbol!
lct Posted August 22, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2013 There is a bug in the current firmware obviously.
01af Posted August 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2013 The copyright feature in the M (Typ 240) is screwed up and totally useless.
rsmphoto Posted August 22, 2013 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2013 The copyright feature in the M (Typ 240) is screwed up and totally useless. Surprised the guys testing the prototypes didn't discuss that with Leica.... or maybe they did, and it was simply felt adequate.
mboerma Posted August 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted August 22, 2013 The only reason I use it is because in case of loss of theft of the camera there is a place where my name and email address can be found (and on all the picture taken with the camera). Besides that I use LR settings on import, just like JaapV
Scotttokar Posted August 23, 2013 Share #7 Posted August 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can see the copyright in other metadata browsers, but not in LightRoom or Aperture. Seems like a software or RAW process error to me.
theno23 Posted August 23, 2013 Share #8 Posted August 23, 2013 I always add copyright info on import; the camera has too few positions anyway and it lacks the © symbol! That's fine because the © symbol isn't necessary (or sufficient?) for a copyright notice. "Copyright" is though. Rules might be different in Copyright fields, but here's an excerpt from some well-known instructions in copyrighting your work: " Always use the English word “Copyright”; by international convention, this is used worldwide, even for material in other languages. The copyright symbol “©” can be included if you wish (and your character set supports it), but it's not necessary. There is no legal significance to using the three-character sequence “©”, although it does no harm."

This is even more intriguing because the entered text, which is my email address, takes up all the available squares in the camera editor. The bottom item, where I entered my name looks correctly. Has anybody else observed this? Yes, it's very buggy, set it at import time, just make sure it has at least the word "Copyright", your name, and the date, otherwise it might not be enforceable. You can add other stuff if you like.

If I have to spell out "copyright" I cannot imagine what Leica was thinking of by using so few positions. I always add my copyright info by ImageIngester.
hoppyman Posted August 23, 2013 Share #11 Posted August 23, 2013 In the Copyright status field, mine displays "unknown". The other options are copyrighted or public domain. In the actual copyright field, mine displays the ISO value or auto ISO . I have no idea whether this is due to camera or program or both. I never bothered to fiddle further with this in camera thus far but I can of course add data on import as desired.
ru2far2c Posted July 5, 2019 Share #12 Posted July 5, 2019 Instead of stating a new thread thought I revive this one. Was this issue ever addressed in firmware updates? Have 2.0.5.0 firmware currently in my 240's. I tried over and over again to enter my information into these fields and it disappears every time. It would be nice to have stick. Any suggestion? It's not a big deal really because I add the information during import using photo mechanic. It would be nice to have it happen in camera though. lct Posted July 5, 2019 Share #13 Posted July 5, 2019 (edited) Issues with copyright and artist information in exif data have been fixed in October 2013 since firmware update 2.0.0.11 in my book. No problem with the current firmware 2.0.5.0 as far as my M240 is concerned anyway. Edited July 5, 2019 by lct
ru2far2c Posted July 5, 2019 Share #14 Posted July 5, 2019 Thanks lct, for some reason mine still disappears. Neither body will hold the info once entered. I must have missed a step in there to save or something. Oh well, it doesn't affect taking pictures away.

ru2far2c Posted July 6, 2019 Share #16 Posted July 6, 2019 Okay, I'll give that a shot. Thought I tried without success once before. Or maybe I changed something in the menu that changed the saved profile. Anyway it's worth a try.
ru2far2c Posted July 6, 2019 Share #17 Posted July 6, 2019 For now it seems to be holding it own using a profile. Have changed a few things in menu and have noticed that the user profile reverts back to default. If save the changes made in the menu to previous saved profile everything is good to go. Kinda of PIA, yet it works.
