It's designed specifically for the camera and not that much more expensive that other manufacturers' dedicated hoods costing £65 - £75.  One possible but bulky alternative would be to use a Cokin A Series 43mm adaptor ring , Cokin filter holder and two Cokin clip on hoods ... total cost approx £40. But would also need a regular 43mm filter mount ( i.e. filter mount minus its filter glass) between the lens and the Cokin adaptor to allow sufficient clearance for the X Vario lens to fully retract. The 43mm filter glass is easily removed from its mount - just remove the circlip. I am sorry but I don't understand spending close to $3000 on a camera and being too cheap to buy the manufacturers hood for a little over $100. It is designed specifically for the X Vario, fits perfectly, doesn't vignette and looks great plus it comes with a lens cap. brill64 Posted August 18, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted August 18, 2013 I recently found a 43mm round aluminum hood in Sham Shui Po, HKG, which has a secondary thread that I can screw a polarizing filter into for approx US$9-. It's a bit shorter & a lot smaller than the original X-Vario hood but seems to work okie without vignetting. The thing about the original hood is that there's no secondary thread plus it's so huge. brill64 Posted September 1, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted September 1, 2013 well..my alternative hood mentioned above vignettes in the corners at 28mm with a normal, non-slim polarising filter attached. It's okie at 35mm, though. I've also found that with the original round Leica hood attached & when using the X-Vario pop up flash, I get a strange, dark shadow appearing at bottom right of frames from 35-28mm. So I will also source and buy a JJC or similar hood with the necessary adaptor. Â Have you tried it at the widest zoom setting? My regular brand polariser is fine for most of the zoom range but at the widest zoom setting the image is vignetted by the hood. Vignetting was immediately obvious - so the lens was zoomed in slightly until the vignetting disappeared.  Welcome, dear visitor! Does anyone else have this problem? If the filter fits on your camera, the hood should fit on the filter. I have B+W and they work fine with the hood.
