Adapter for R lens to Visoflex mirror housing

I have seen Visoflex lens to R camera adapter but no R lens to Visoflex.

R flange distance is 47mm, Visoflex flange distance is 41mm but the mount is the same as M. An R to Visoflex adapter should have R mount on the lens end and M mount on the camera end but with 6mm distance in between.

Anyone has seen it, where to buy?

Well, while the distance between front and rear flanges on the Viso II/III is indeed around 41 mm, the flange distance for an M body (around 28 mm) must be added to that, giving roughly 69 mm between the sensor/film plane and the front mount of the Viso. So, infinity focussing of R lenses with a Viso is out. As for mounting them for closeup work, Novoflex sells the necessary adapter; probably there are other sources as well.

R lens is made to be a certain distance from the film called the register distance (mount flange to film). The viso flex is rather thick and that distance acts as an extension tube. If an adapter were available , it would already be too far from the film/sensor. M gets around this by not using a viso and using live view. The register for an R camera is greater than that for an M to accommodate the mirror function, therefor there is space available for an adapter.

Viso lenses got around that problem by having the lens head detach from the focus mount used for rangefinder work and be reattached on a shortened focus mount. Lenses that were never rangefinder coupled were made short enough already from the factory, ie 200 mm , 65 mm.

I guess the question is how do you plan on using the R lens on an M, and which M?

If you are looking to use an R lens on the new M, you can use the old 222228 adapter Leica made or the new adapter available for the M (240). There are also a number of third party adapters out there like Metabones, etc.

If you are looking to directly mount an R lens onto the Visoflex II or III, you are out of luck for infinity focus. You can use the 222228 adapter on an R lens with any M camera (film or digital) with scale focussing to infinity.

Any R-M adapter will do, snag is it only works in close up mode and mostly with longer lenes.

Thanks. OK, R to Viso is not possible except for macro.

What about Hasselblad V (74.9mm) to Viso (27.8mm+ 41mm =68.8mm) ?

I've seen Viso lens to HB V adapter, but not the reverse.

What you want to accomplish does not work if you expect to focus to infinity. The mirror housing itself is too thick. However it does work nicely if you want to use it for macro work.

The distance from the film plane to mount is longer for Visoflex lenses than on R lenses.
