UOTE=A miller;2635466]I thought I would share a fun set of "experiment" results with my German friends.

Below are some NYC snow blizzard shots captured with three Leica cameras: an M3, M9 and MM. The lenses used are either the 35mm lux fle or 50mm lux asph, both the most recent versions and so differences in images can't really be attributed to the lens to any significant extent.

First the M3, shot with Kodak Portra and converted to B&W (sorry Portra fans)

Second, the M9

Lastly, the MM

I have lots more (in fact I probably could and should write a photo book), but I don't want to bore anyone...I save that for my "International" forum friends...:)

Thanks for looking and enjoy!

I am not one to get in the middle of religious wars. However, at the risk of helping facilitate such a war I am pasting the link my original threads which include more NYC snow blizzard pictures from each camera for those who wish to be able to analyze more examples from each camera.

My simple bottom line conclusion is that there is nothing like film. Having said this, film is SO exhausting to process (develop), scan/digitize and post-process. Even in NYC where there exists a professional photo "district," it is a real pain to get back and forth to drop off and pick up film. I think I would get much cleaner and sharper results from film if I used a master developer and printer. But the fact is that this is totally impractical and my scanning workflow (involving a Nikon Coolscan 9000) produces pretty good results; however I am not getting the full benefit of all of the great qualities of film (just a quick flip through some of HCB's work reveals how the master printer is able to open shadows perfectly in all faces and other relevant subjects yet keep sharp detail with consistent tones through the background, even in extreme highlights; I am not smart enough to replicate this with my digital workflow of scanned negatives). So in this modern world I think the potential of film is somewhat handicapped (at least for me).

The MM is a pure joy to use and the images are sharp, clean and rich. The flexibility of having a wide range of very usable ISOs is also a clear benefit. In many cases, an MM images can be processed to exceed the results of 35mm film and even rival medium format film. The opposite is also true, particularly if you know what you are doing or take the time turn the workflow over to someone who knows what they are doing.

On balance, I sincerely believe that it all comes down to a personal cost-benefit decision for each prospective purchaser. Do you want to stick with film and work significantly harder to produce high qualitty digitized images, which may keep you locked in a room in front of a scanner and computer away from your family and friends for inordinate periods of time. Or, do you want to achieve nearly the same results with a small fraction of the processing time, which will enable you to get images out to market (or up on your blog or this forum) much quicker and with a lot of time to spare to allow you to watch you kids grow up and stay out of the dog house with you spouse.

For me, I am keeping all three cameras, which I guess is a vote for religious freedom :)

Once again a hint for me to stay on the analogue track- beautiful the both pics U listed first. very very impressive thx

Stimmt!

Mit "alle Regler auf Anschlag + Sepia" meinte ich folgende Kameraeinstellungen: Schärfen Standard, Kontrast Hoch, Tönung Sepia / Schwach.

Eine wirklich sehr, sehr schöne Ausarbeitung! Gratuliere!
