Spiritualized67 Posted July 24, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it safe to use a Zeiss lens cleaning wipe on an older (1969) 50mm Summicron DR? I can't imagine that a light touch (used very infrequently) would cause any cleaning marks - but I'm no expert. Plus - isn't it the collapsible earlier-model Summicron the one with the soft glass? luigi bertolotti Posted July 24, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 24, 2013 I can add that your observation on the collapsible Summicron is right : its glass is soft, and, moreover, coating is "fragile" : is typical to find items with a coating that looks almost "wiped out" at center.... DR doesn't suffer such issues.
jaapv Posted July 28, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 28, 2013 But you must remove all "Zeiss" branding.

thrid Posted August 10, 2013 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The coatings on the DR are much harder than on the collapsible, but in my experience not as hard as on Nikkors of the same period. So, be careful. I'm lucky to have a collapsible with the coatings still intact and have had a DR for about 15 years. I clean both of them with a sheet of Kodak or Roscoe lens tissue and Pancro lens cleaning fluid. I let the weight of the damp tissue do the work, by dragging it gently in a circular motion.
