wag Posted April 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just recieved my 1/2 case in aged brown from Luigi and it's spectacular. A small word of caution however. I ordered the grip handle model assuming ( ah, there you go again, making an ... of you and me) that it was designed to accommodate the grip/back plate option from Leica I bought and love, a couple of months ago. To my surprise, Luigi's grip is solid and does not accommodate Leica's grip plate. No huge problem, I just put the original bottom plate back on and moaned over the $150 I could have saved if I had bought Luigi's solution first. leicabug Posted April 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 8, 2007 In my opinion, Luigi case with grip is the best of all his cases. Very comfortable to hold.

egibaud Posted April 8, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 8, 2007 I have the black half case with grip and haging back. Great! and as you say you don't need the Leica grip when using this version. So if you were prepared to buy both it's like getting Luigi's for half price :-) By the way, if you feel you may ever use a tripod, I advice you get the special screw (US$ 40) do not forget to indicate it in RED MASSIVE FONTS or he will forget to put it. It happened to me and I had to send it back, but Luigi largely compensated me for the mistake :-) thanks Luigi. Eric
cbretteville Posted April 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 8, 2007 To those contemplating a 1/2 case and have a grip there is an option for it. I approached Luigi abiut this in February and he said he could make one as he has a grip and the M8. This was before I received my M8 so I didn't order it then. If you're interested, email him and ask for it. - C
losta Posted April 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 8, 2007 Thanks for the tip, I am planning to order again from Luigi soon! Did you get the strap too?
wag Posted April 8, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted April 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, I did get the strap and it is equally worthwhile. I already had a black A & A wrist strap and got the Luigi strap anyway. People who see the black case aon the black camera say it looks like their father,s camera when they were growing up. I also like chrome lenses on it. I have an old summitar chrome lens on a black body woth the aged brown case . Brad Wagstaff
Gilles L. Posted April 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted April 8, 2007 I also have the half case with the built-in grip and hanging-back; it is a great solution both for protecting your camera and for the grip. I don't know about you but I wish the M8 had a flip around screen like the RD-1. I don't really care to review my pictures right away; it takes away from the shooting experience. Also, those screens are so fragile, they get scratched too quickly. The hanging-back on the luigi case is a very good solution. The fit is not perfect, but pretty good. I was concerned that I would be pushing the buttons through the leather without noticing, and therefore draining the battery, but this has not happened. the built-in grip is nice too. I have a half case for my M7 without it, and wish I did most of the time.
losta Posted April 8, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 8, 2007 Brad, Can you post a photo of your M8 in the Luigi Case with grip?
losta Posted April 8, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 8, 2007 Brad, One more question is the brown case you received the same as pictured on the web site?
losta Posted April 9, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 9, 2007 Yet another question before I order a luigi half case. Is the stitched patch easy to shoot with or does it flap around becoming annoying?
amedick Posted April 9, 2007 Share #12 Posted April 9, 2007 And what is never mentioned, the leather smells so good.......... everytime I pull the camera out if its bag, that wiff of leather of the half case is part of the experience, even after a month.... Bought the half case, with handgrip and tripod screw, really recommended. Since I use the half case as protector and grip, and store and transport in small billingham, I never put screen flap on. If I were to order again I would order without flap and snaps, Luigi informed me he could make one like this, ie no back flap and no snaps (x4) on the case. I ordered the hand strap, which works well with half case and storing in Billingham case. Wish their was an easy way to get battery charged and download pictures without having to remove cases and M8 bottom plate. For example, an easily accessible USB port that also charges the camera. Wireless perhaps? I also ordered for a friend a full case. Different use, but works well. My firiend loved it until he used my half case with handgrip. He would love a full case with handgrip. I hope this helps anyone going through the thought process and justification of the Luigi line of cases. Best Regards
bradhusick Posted April 9, 2007 Share #13 Posted April 9, 2007 My beloved half case with grip and snap off back, hand strap, and Leicagoodies snap-swivel. The color in this shot is not warm enough, but this is the "rally" color. -Brad H Welcome, dear visitor! wilfredo Posted April 10, 2007 Share #16 Posted April 10, 2007 I've gone ahead and ordered from Luigi. How long does the case usually take to arrive? I think the brown is going to look really cool on the silver body :-) Thanks, Wilfredo+
glenerrolrd Posted April 11, 2007 Share #17 Posted April 11, 2007 My beloved half case with grip and snap off back, hand strap, and Leicagoodies snap-swivel. The color in this shot is not warm enough, but this is the "rally" color.-Brad H Looks like a great set up! Why do you use the handstrap on the left side ? I would think you would put your hand thru it on the right(like a ski pole) and then hold the camera by the grip. When you buy the tripod screw ...it screws into the camera? Trade off is you have to unscrew it to open the back...do I understand this correctly? thanks Roger
James Mitchell Posted April 11, 2007 Share #18 Posted April 11, 2007 I love Luigi's cases for all Leica Ms and for the RD-1s. The built-in grip is perfect for me. If you are not familiar with his line of cases, please ask him or others. You will never be disappointed by his cases so long as you understand what you are getting. James Mitchell Posted April 11, 2007 Share #19 Posted April 11, 2007 Roger, you are correct. To fully tighten the case which has a tripod screw you do need to screw it in. You don't absolutely have to do this, as the case will fit without tightening the tripod screw to the camera, but you'll want to do this in order to make use of the tripod screw for its intended purpose. It only takes a coin and five seconds to undo anyway...
amedick Posted April 11, 2007 Share #20 Posted April 11, 2007 Wilfredo If he has it in stock, like my order was (full, half case, 2 wrist straps, neck strap), two days to UK, would add another for USA. Enjoy the case. Take Care
