X Vario my favourite camera, thinking of selling my other gear

Since I received the Leica X Vario , I have not used my other gear for over one month : Leica X2 and Fujifilm XPro1 +18-55 and 50-200.

Infatuation ? hard to say , this X Vario does everything I want it to do and does it very well,

brilliant colours, tack sharp, even in low light, and the focal length range that I shoot 95 % of all my images in.

The Fuji Xpro 1 with the lenses is also a very fine camera with outstanding IQ, however more of a bag full and I am more attracted to the simplicity of the X vario.

The X2 ? , fantastic small camera, almost on par with the X Vario and it fits in my pocket, also not used since I received the Xvario.

The Leica X Vario is a very special camera, as people beginning to understand, can't put my finger on it what makes it so, probably the combination of all aspects, IQ, built quality, portability, (although no pocket camera) simplicity, layout of controls and menus , for me very intuitive and the shear pleasure of using the X Vario

So, what to do ? , what to sell ? , what to keep ?, it is not the cash , I just don't like keeping stuff I don't use.

I have never owned a Fuji anything, except for film, so I cannot comment on what you should do or not do in that department.

If you were me, which you definitely are not, I would keep the X2 as a companion and backup camera. You could travel with both easily, the batteries are interchangeable, they use the same charger and the same EVF. it would give you a compact alternative when you want something smaller to carry and it would give you a backup.

I could go on but..............

I actually sold the remainder of my heavy digital SLR gear to fund the X Vario as I was not using it relying on my smaller and more portable Ricoh GXR and A12 mount with acquired Leica M lenses instead. I however was missing at times the use of a zoom lens and autofocus from having an SLR and so took an interest in the X Vario. To answer your question, will depend on your photographic interests and techniques employed and whether you will miss the extended telephoto range offered by your 50-200 mm lens. Sounds like it may be worth holding onto the X2 as a backup camera if you have no need for your Fujifilm equipment or any other potential camera.

Most of us that are part of this forum are lucky enough to be able own Leica Cameras and Lenses. That does not mean that other Camera Makes / Brands are junk.

Think the Ricoh GXR with Leica A12 mount is a very good camera. Just wish Ricoh would bring out a full frame Leica M mount soon to complement it. That would save me a great deal of expense in being able to use and experience my M lenses with a full frame sensor. However, there are rumours about the demise of the GXR.

Wash your mouth with soap!:D The rumour I have read on one of the - where else - rumour sites, is the opposite: Ricoh is working on a GXR.2. I'm hoping it will be full frame. Anything less won't tempt me from my Canon EOS-M, which replaced my GXR (as well as Canon 5D and Pentax K5!).

As for the X Vario: I want one! I use the EOS-M with the 22mm kit lens and a set of Cosina Voigtlander lenses (35/1.2, 50/1.5, 75/2.5) and they all fit into a tiny bag about the size of the Artisan & Artists ACAM100. So I really don't need an X Vario. But dammit, ever since I held one I couldn't stop thinking about it. L for Leica and Lust.

One month is hardly long enough to make such a drastic judgement. Imagine how your current favourite will perform when the weather turns sour or you face some tempting photo opportunities which require faster, wider or longer lenses.

yes, I agree...except IQ and simplicity of the user interface and build-quality ;)

Not that I`m a fan of this x-trans sensor of the Fujis, but what I have seen so far beats the output of the usual and slightly aging 16MP Sony sensor Leica put into the XV, especially now with enough RAW converters around which do a decent job with the Fuji files. As an example, see the link to a blog from a guy who thought the XV was the greatest thing since sliced bread until he used different raw converters for his Fuji XE files:SOUNDIMAGEPLUS - : Iridient Developer and its implications for the Fuji X system.

There was a huge leap from the M8 to the M9, the M8 always has struggled with colour, but in saying that I still am patial to the black and white files the camera produces. The Ricoh has too much of a dominant footprint that makes the images one dimensional

Well I thought the images would be two dimensional at the very least!!! I still feel that outside of Leica M digital cameras, the Ricoh still takes some beating at getting the best out of Leica M lenses.
