jeffu Posted July 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I did a google search on Leica Monochrom and this site came up - Hobbstorm.com - claims they are selling them for $5,500 and they have M9's for $4,650 and M9P for $4,800 - can't possibly be legit - and how are they not being shut down? Advertisement Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Hi jeffu, Take a look here This can't be legit??. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AlainLandry Posted July 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2013 Very strange that a store will only sales items with a tag price over $4,000.00. When you click on "sitemap" the answer is: sitemap for your language could not be found. I guess they know that am French. When you click on "vendors" the answer is : no vendors found. That site is a real joke! Thanks Jeffu for the info!
Bill W Posted July 12, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2013 Hmmmmm,,,, They are selling Monochrom's that no one can get and M9 and M9P's that are no longer produced. They must have some insider information
CalArts 99 Posted July 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2013 The owner of that domain name (HobbsTorm.com) has the same name and same city address as the person owning a restaurant in that city: The Republic Restaurant & Bar at 2053 W. Broad St. reopens | Richmond BizSense Which since re-opening is the target of a suit: (Somewhat) New News About The Republic The HobbsTorm website is 3 months old. I guess he's starting a new line of business
jeffu Posted July 12, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted July 12, 2013 New line of business alright - I wouldn't trust purchasing anything through this site. As already stated, he's selling items in short supply or almost non-existant for well below cost - has to be something up. I also notice he only accepts paypal - so you'd be out of luck after sending money....
kokoshawnuff Posted July 12, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2013 Ill echo what others have already said, but in a more direct way: 99.9% chance it is a scam.

It is my impression that paypal is one of the payment methods with the best buyer protection. Have you any information to the contrary?

Gary Clennan Posted July 12, 2013 Share #12 Posted July 12, 2013 Paypal's "buyer protection" is for eBay auctions only. They offer no protection for transactions outside of eBay. Not true. There are certain criteria for Buyer Protection but it is not limited to Ebay. I just went through this last month. One of the key items (which I was unaware of) is for Sellers to ship only with a signature upon receipt.
jdlaing Posted July 12, 2013 Share #13 Posted July 12, 2013 Paypal's "buyer protection" is for eBay auctions only. They offer no protection for transactions outside of eBay. That is not true. Buyer protection is offered to a buyer wherever PayPal is used to make a transaction.

It is my impression that paypal is one of the payment methods with the best buyer protection. Have you any information to the contrary? Stopped in the Bale Leica store just Wednesday, but did not see much of interest for me. Forgot to ask the young female sales clerk if they had MM's since I was interested in MF grip and M-R adapter and own more M lenses than they had on display. No luck for M accessories.
