jcraf Posted December 5, 2013 Share #41 Posted December 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) What rumour? £4999 is the price that at least two dealers (that I know of) are selling the Monochrom for. Not ex-demo but regular new stock. It's a good price. Both of the aforementioned Northern UK dealers are back up to £6100/£6200 now.........

wattsy Posted December 6, 2013 Share #42 Posted December 6, 2013 Both of the aforementioned Northern UK dealers are back up to £6100/£6200 now......... Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that both Wilkinson's and Harrison's had stock available at £4,999……….
jcraf Posted December 6, 2013 Share #43 Posted December 6, 2013 Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that both Wilkinson's and Harrison's had stock available at £4,999………. Of course not. Just wondered why the price had now gone back up to pretty much the RRP. Although Leica have no legal power to stop this sort of price cutting, perhaps these particular dealers found their MM supply inexplicably dried up? Just my supposition of course. Yes, it certainly looks as if something like that may have happened. Maybe the dealers were keen to clear the stock they had but, if so, it does seem odd that they both chose such a hefty discount to accomplish that. When I first saw the camera at £4995 I assumed that this was the new price and I still wonder whether it revealed an aborted attempt by Leica UK to reprice the camera more aggressively in the market. Either way, I note that neither dealer has stock at the RRP price which suggests that Leica UK may have cleared its own stock of this camera.
colint544 Posted December 13, 2013 Share #46 Posted December 13, 2013 I bought my MM in August 2012, and paid the full UK price (I think it was £6100). But I've had 15 months' worth of use out of it, and I'd struggle to put a price on some of the images it's yielded over that time. I'm still completely addicted to shooting this wonderful machine. Any future replacement for it will have to be mind-blowing. Best wishes all, Colin

It has nothing to do with conspiracy theories or clearing stock, Harrison's usually have a much keener, and clearer, pricing structure than other Leica dealers, and pass on Leica's prices. So Harrison's who currently have then in stock at £5950 are £25 cheaper than Red Dot for a Monochrom at the moment. And while a lot of dealers have the £500 instant cash back offer on the M240, some like Red Dot are 'disguising' the real price by quoting an M240 with the offer already discounted. So Red Dot sell you an M240 for £4299 including £500 cash back, Harrison's sell you one for £4600 with the £500 to come off at checkout, so which is cheaper? Steve Often I can't make head nor tail of the things you post, Steve and this is a classic example of your rambling. My post you are responding to was made in early December and referred to a short period when both Harrison's and another dealer (probably Wilkinsons - I can't remember) were both quoting a new price of £4995 for the Monochrom. There was no cashback offer on at the time (I don't think there has been one associated with the Monochrom) and both dealers quickly sold out and subsequently put their advertised price back up to the RRP of £6,250. My point had nothing to do with the M240, the price of which has varied quite a bit, depending upon the dealer, instant cashback offer and/or whether the dealer quotes including the cashback or not, etc.
