keithlaban.co.uk Posted July 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all My new - to me - M9-P is intermittently taking 2 shots rather than the intended single shot. This is not a second "black picture" for noise reduction at longer exposures but merely another identical image. The camera is set at S for single exposures and bracketing is Off. Any ideas please? TIA

TIA Set it to DNG only and not DNG + JPEG Fine? Or does the shutter actually actuate two times per single shot?
keithlaban.co.uk Posted July 1, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted July 1, 2013 Set it to DNG only and not DNG + JPEG Fine? Or does the shutter actually actuate two times per single shot? The camera is set to DNG only. The shutter actuates twice, but the fault is intermittent.
01af Posted July 1, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2013 My new M (Typ 240) does the same, occasionally. Typically, it will happen when I'm deliberately triggering the shutter in an extra-smooth and careful way, trying to hand-hold a slow shutter speed. I guess there's some chatter in the shutter-release contact which the camera interprets as two hits on the release button in rapid succession. I guess Customer Care would be able to fix this in no time ... but it does by far not bother me enough to send the camera away just for this. My M9 never did this. I am surprised to hear that your M9-P now has the same problem ...

I guess there's some chatter in the shutter-release contact which the camera interprets as two hits on the release button in rapid succession. Yes, that sounds plausible. I'm used to shooting medium format digital cameras bolted to a tripod so I'm being particularly careful with my hand holding technique. I am surprised to hear that your M9-P now has the same problem ... I'm testing my M9-P thoroughly and if this is the only problem then it's something I can live with until the camera absolutely has to go back to Germany. Many thanks. Luke_Miller Posted July 2, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 2, 2013 I've not experienced this with my M9, but see it with my Nikons. In my case it is what 01af describes. A very gentle release of the shutter can result in two (or more) shots. Probably from a slight "bounce" of the shutter release due to the light pressure. keithlaban.co.uk Posted July 2, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted July 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Shooting today with a slightly less hesitant finger on the trigger resulted in no multiple exposures.
rob_w Posted July 2, 2013 Share #8 Posted July 2, 2013 I had a similar problem with my M9 which would take multiple shots when I wanted to use 'discrete'. Eventually Leica asked me to send it in and they repaired it.
wattsy Posted July 2, 2013 Share #9 Posted July 2, 2013 It doesn't sound like normal behaviour. I haven't encountered it in nearly 4 years of using this type of camera (M9 and M9P).
keithlaban.co.uk Posted July 27, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted July 27, 2013 Just a quick update. The M9-P had taken less than 50 shots when I bought it. It displayed this intermittent glitch for the first couple days of use and then disappeared entirely. I've been using it for several weeks now without any problem. Perhaps it was just teething? jaapv Posted July 27, 2013 Share #11 Posted July 27, 2013 More likely the shutter button running in.
