Paulus Posted June 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just wondered. Would it be possible to compete M9 against M 240 in the high iso region, when using Phase One Capture one pro 7 noise reduction. It would be cheaper than buying a M 240. I heard this noise reduction work fabulous. Anybody has any experience with this?
Advertisement Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Hi Paulus, Take a look here Can Phase one + M9 beats M240?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted June 28, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2013 No - because the noise reduction works just as well on the highest ISO M240 files.
Shade Posted June 28, 2013 Share #3 Posted June 28, 2013 No, but that doesn't mean M9 files are less nice. Just technically "worse" in several technical terms.
Paulus Posted June 28, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted June 28, 2013 No - because the noise reduction works just as well on the highest ISO M240 files. I understand Jaap, but I keep trying to prevent myself buying a M 240. This could really help to get captures with a M9 in the M 240 price range ( if it works ) . I only use the 2500 occasionally so it would be a waste of money if the phase one 7 did the job very well. Please help me out. It's a serious question. lct Posted June 28, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 28, 2013 You might wish to upload a DNG file here to be sure. Otherwise, i have close to zero experience with the M9 but i've kept some 1250 iso files from it and i find them quite decent out of Capture One 7.1.3. My M240 files look cleaner at 3200 iso though. crispy12 Posted June 29, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 29, 2013 I just got the M240 myself. The high ISO difference is night and day. I find the ISO 6400 files to be comparable to M9 2400 files. Not that I'd use it often though.
jaapv Posted June 29, 2013 Share #7 Posted June 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you hardly use high ISO the files out of the M9 will certainly be good enough. The problem with high ISO performance is the we have expectations that shift with each improvement. We always seem to want to use the camera beyond its technical limit. I think it is a mistake to consider the M240 for image quality over the M9. The arguments are versatility, features and build quality.
tobey bilek Posted June 30, 2013 Share #8 Posted June 30, 2013 All noise reduction tends to soften the image. My free tip is do NR on a separate layer, then use an edge mask to preserve the edges. A properly made edge mask will look like a pencil drawing with very slightly mushy lines. The Light's Right Studio Website Template One can invert the mask and use it for sharpening which is the opposite of NR.
nelly Posted July 1, 2013 Share #9 Posted July 1, 2013 My M9 in low light at iso 640 or 800 with a fast lens is good enough for me. I rarely go higher.
