I just ordered Leica X2 in silver for $1995.00 Canadian as store I ordered from agreed to old retail price, compared to $2045 advertised now.

Almost ordered the X Vario but it is out of my price range...

Has there been any firmware updates for X2 since its been released ?

How is build quality?

Only 2 concerns is dust on sensor from retracting lens & not able to use protective filter on lens.

Recently sold Nikon D600 body + AF-S 50mm f/1.8G lens at great loss ((((

Last Leica I owned was the Leica CM film camera.

kind of tired of negative comments on how Leica is over priced and not comparable other cameras in same category

What is best half case? Leica? Gariz?

Dan

happy will soon have a Leica again

Congratulations! You won't regret it - it's a great camera.

There has been one firmware update, but check yours to see if it has 1.1 - if so no need to do anything.

If you are worried about dust, get a Kiwi tube which screws on to the front instead of the outer knurled ring around the lens, takes a 49mm filter, helps to stop dust getting in. Downside is not so small a package.

There are a number of 1/2 cases - some with a grip "bulge" some without, have a look also at Artisan & Artist.

Guess if wait a while can pay difference and get X Vario

Dan

The X2 is still made and in stock at B & H for $1995 the last time I looked.

Guest badbob
purchased Leica X Vario instead of the X2

Great decision - it's a larger camera, but that lens will make up for it with more flexibility in composition.

G'day,

Well done, having had my Leica X2 for all of 1 day I can't see why you'd be disappointed. I read every review I could find but went to the store and played with cameras every lunch time for 30 mins....I've never owned a Leica previously, all canons and L glass until I bought a nex.

The Nikon A - Terrible lens contrast, favours sharpness over every other lens quality and is a tad too wide. That and the controls suck. Store clerk showed me a portrait he did of some kid and it had been taken close with the wider lens, distorting the nose wide and lack of lens contrast made the colours on the face unnatural and lost definition.

The Sony's tend to also believe sharpness is the only quality of a lens worth going for. Also poor design of the rx1 made gripping almost impossible without covering sensor and weight of lens unbalanced the camer in hand.

The Fuji Xs - flat colours just couldn't render reds and purples naturally, a criticism I've long had of all Olympus's

Finally the Leica X2...I felt at home with the controls from the moment I picked it up. Snapped a couple of photo's and fell in love. Came back again and again to the store to make sure... Wow!

Just sold all my canon gear and nex on ebay, the x2 is the only camera I need until they give me an equivalent camera with a sweet 55-180/200 lens to pair with it. The x2 will get a great road test in October when we go to the USA.

Just my 2c ;)

Well done with the x2 buy

Cheers

J

There's a learning curve to using the X2... it may take you about a month of serious shooting before you get used to all the stuff you have to do previously to shooting... the images will be crappy at the beginning... in a month they will be your top best! Totally worth it! And you want to get the auto lens cap... because no one has the time nor the patience to be putting that cap on and off and looking after it when you are on the road and movements need to happen fast. Totally recommended.

I didn't find a real learning curve with the X2, I started with everything auto and came up with nice images, from there I experimented with all the settings , very few missed shots and nice images, it is a great little camera, with outstanding image quality,

simple and functional.

Hello all,

I have been using my X2 for a month now. In the 1st week, I have difficulty to nail down the focus and my exposure isn't right even with Aperture priority. After fiddling it more taking more & more pictures, as said by rrincon above, I started to learn it. Now I felt much better & am more confident with using it. The images are superb; colors are lovely & rich. Focus is not the fastest & is not always right, but it is ok. My secret is really to use auto focus but use manual exposure for both shutter & aperture; making it slightly under-exposed. To me, X2 images resemble the footprint of M9. It is a good backup camera for convenience.

Best regards,

Michael.

Hello David,

Thank you!

I tried Manual Exposure once. Yes, it is a lot slower. The problem is I cannot tell from that magnification if it is in focus probably due to my presbyopia, lol.

Oh David, I am sorry I misunderstood you.

Actually, I am using manual exposure and I find that the exposure accuracy is much better. I usually under-exposed it by 2/3 of a stop. I used to ask for an AE lock on X2 but it does not have one, so it is better for me to use manual exposure. The problem I am talking above is really the manual focusing as I cannot tell from the magnification that it is really in focus.

Cheers,

Michael.
