jimleicam3 Posted June 19, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted June 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been thinking of selling my D-Lux 5, X 2 and holding on to my M 8, and then buying the X Vario. As I get older I am interested in a more; one camera, one lens, can almost do everything type camera. Most of my photos now are just travel, and fun related, no fine art, no pro work. Thanks for your input. Cheers!

earleygallery Posted June 19, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted June 19, 2013 If you can only buy Leica gear then it seems a good compromise.

jhluxton Posted June 20, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted June 20, 2013 Still not sure about the XVario looks a nice chunky camera but I value my X1 for low light photography. (The X2 didn't offer enough more for me to move from X1 to X2.) Â If I do decide to get an XVario the logical camera for me to sell would be the Digilux 3. Â I will have to read a good few reviews before I decide to take the plunge and might just wait to see what comes next.
Peter L Posted June 21, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted June 21, 2013 Hard to say, the X2 is truly pocketable , the Vario X is not, the best camera is the one you have with you, that being said , if some one made me a nice offer, I would probably let it go , too many cameras. wda Posted June 21, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted June 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been thinking of selling my D-Lux 5, X 2 and holding on to my M 8, and then buying the X Vario. Thanks for your input. Cheers! Why? That just does not make sense to me. For simple travel the D-Lux 5 is a super and versatile little camera and might well do all you want. The M8 has already lost most of its value and will continue to be a most capable camera system, presumably with lenses you already own. And the X2 will continue to perform as it did the day you bought it. Â Remember that human beings like variety. Having three cameras does not mean that you must carry them all the time. Select one; go forth and produce the best pictures you can with it. Another day; another situation, select another from your Leica stable and repeat the above. Your spirit will be revitalised by ringing the changes. My guess is that you will regret selling one or all of your Leica cameras and gain very little to compensate you. Â Don't forget that the M8 is a fine camera for IR which is an interesting challenge.
dhsimmonds Posted June 22, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted June 22, 2013 David, I think that Jim did mention that he would be holding on to his M8 and selling the other two (X2 and DL5). Â I can quite understand that decision and would probably make a similar decision. I always take two cameras with me and as I get older the less bulkier and lighter weight the better, subject to producing very good IQ.
nippa Posted June 22, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted June 22, 2013 I've never been Brand loyal. Buying the X1 was easy as there was no competition ; then Leica was ahead of the game. Two years ago I'd have bitten at an X1 with a similar lens but times have moved on. Besides , the initial test images don't excite me although nothing new about that. Â My focus is on what Sony do next with the full frame Zeiss lens-ed RX1 and if Leica responds with a new compact.
