I took the LXV on holiday to North and South Wales last week. It struggled with the weather conditions for the first time! It was either very bright and overcast or very, very bright and blue! Need to use an ND filter next time.

Light was not good.

Abstract at Portmeirion.

I think you could get more out of this file if you have time. Try increasing the exposure by eone or more stops while heeding an eye o the histogram. Even a simple Auto exposure correction might reveal the picture's potential. After that, try tweaking curves to improve the subtle contrasts of the white walls. I hope the improvements will raise your spirit.

This is one of my more successful photos, taken near Harlech, Wales.

Of course. I also have a new monitor and I need to calibrate it !!

Rosie, to be sure I also recalibrated my monitor tonight. Your second version is much better in my opinion than your first posting. It was difficult to improve on it. However I used the eyedropper and sampled the wall, just below the lowest finial, in WB and saw a shade of blueness removed from all walls. I then used the brush tool to lighten the blue door just a little. I also lifted the whites a little using the Tone Curve; increased saturation of the egg-like golden finials and added a minute amount of detail sharpening, the latter not really needed.

Even on dull days you can always find a subject or two, as you have proven.

Wow David! What an improvement. Now I need to learn to calibrate my monitor!

Thank you so much.

David, the second version of my photo above is by LeicaX not me, he’s done a good job

Rosie

Rosie, it is a very personal judgment  when it comes to assessing the results of processing. Only the photographer knows how the original subject looked at the time of exposure and how he/she wished to interpret the scene. But it is always good to share methods of achieving that aim. Sorry that I failed to check the author of an alternative rendering.

Here are the two examples.
