X-Vario + Marumi Achromat

Looking at this superb image I think of all the naysayers who so unfairly crticised the X Vario when it was first announced - and wonder if they will ever learn how to assess a digital Leica camera fairly and properly - especially when they themselves have likely never used a recent Leica digital camera for any length of time.

I just got my X Vario and I love it.  Sure, there are some features missing that I would have appreciated (built-in viewfinder, image stabilization, focus peaking) but I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever use my OM-D again.  Gorgeous colors on those trunks!

It was folly for Leica to have not included the viewfinder on the X line of cameras. I suspect they would have been much better received had they done so.

After acquiring the Q it is hard to understand their 'short-sightedness' (no pun intended)!

Any new camera requires at least two or three years to develop and if no suitable internal EVF is available at the initial design stage, the designer cannot assume an acceptable internal EVF will be available prior to launch - hence the accessory viewfinder was chosen. Any built-in EVF specified at the X2 or XV design stage would likely have been inferior to an accessory EVF. The Q's EVF probably represents several years' EVF development and was likely at least 4 years away when the X2 and XV designs were first specified.

Thank you, Rick and Dunk, I'm glad you like it.

I took it with the X-Vario and my two Marumi achromatics Macro 200 (+5) and Macro 330 + 3 even as this photo

Shot RAW plus mono JPEG, loved the B&W look, so converted the RAW as well. To be honest, the SOOC JPEG was as good or better, with my limited processing skills.

This is the processed RAW.

I've been taking the X Vario out as much as possible these last few days and working on getting sharp focus.  I've been finding that to be a bit of a challenge.  I think at least part of it must be due to camera shake, although I've been using very fast shutter speeds.

Good shot, James! You must have been alarmingly close to those dangerous looking antlers.

That's what I was thinking!  Yikes!

Amy

Thank you for your comments! I was indeed very close, but there was no need for fear, as this "shot" was done in a zoo. The deers are walking freely within the park, always in search for some food :)
