Hi guys, I am new here. Just purchase my new M Typ 240. Overall is good, but I suddenly realize my picture esp at night got red and green pixel dots at the most impossible places.

Sometimes, it happens, other times, it did not :(

Attached is the images in DNG for you guy to guard. Very sorry for posting the full file, would really love to hear some feedback.

The issue here is, if you zoom all the way in the upper dark area at the window there, you can see all sort of red, green dot tat I think obviously is not from the scene. The point here is that it did not happen in day light shooting, at least not that I know of.

Once again, thanks for the help if you guys have the time :)

The file is at this public dropbox account:

Well, there is some chroma noise, but given that the picture is underexposed, it is not an unusual amount of noise. Setting the chroma noise suppression slider in Lightroom to 40 takes care of that.

I'm not seeing anything that's going to show up in a print

Try printing it full frame as large as you can and take a look.

Its about the print, a lot of stuff disappears that's on screen

I see nothing to worry about other than I'd like to see a more interesting shot

Thanks guys, I know why some of you guys can't see it.

It is only apparent if you using Apple Preview (Yup I know no-one use that to see photo) to blow up the pixel. Notice that in Photoshop, the dot is missing or being masked to not being obvious.

Attached is some sample..

Is this entirely the issue of software. Btw, the LCD show the same red dot.

I think probably it is just software issue.

The sample is too large, so again dropbox link is here :)

A jpg uses compression. And, if you are shooting dng only a small jpg preview image is created anyhow, this way your camera can show thumbnails without having to reprocess the image. Most likely you are seeing artifacts in the preview image. But, since its not in the dng your camera is fine.

Actually, no, it is an hardware issue called "hot pixel". I opened your DNG in my RAW importer/processor, and I see this red pixel, too. Infact, my software tells me there are like a dozen such pixels in this specific image. I found a few of them while scrolling around in the darker parts of the image.

Now, this may sound bad, but it isn't at all. These hot pixels are so common, that you already have a means in many cameras to map these pixels out, i.e. prevent them from being added to the image in the first place. All RAW importers/processors have a function to remove these, too, and some do it automatically for you without you even noticing.

So, to sum it up: Your camera is fine, have fun with it :D

Yup, it happens with me during my m8, every timeI imported to LR, LR fix the hot issue in the DNG file, so I could't trace back. To prove it to leica, I copy manually copy the dng, the. Open in Photoshop then export to JPG, so I can inspect the reds and blues dots all over the place at High ISO.

But think the final result is the important thing, if LR can fix it automatically, we are covered I guess.

I know how you feel when you find dead pixels. I have sold complete systems because of a dead pixel. Then, I stopped pixel peeping and started enjoying Photography. Worked for me.

That's chroma noise at high ISO. Not hot pixels.

JD in my case are hot pixel. Because they fix them, luckily it was still under warranty.

In your case I understand the hot pixels. Much different than chroma noise.

One thing you might try........print,one of the images that shows the hot pixels and see if they show in the final print.
